Crimson Trace Iain Harrison SHOT Show by GearExpert

Crimson Trace SHOT Show New Products and Interview with Iain Harrison!

Posted on January 27, 2012 by Brian

This might be my favorite video yet from SHOT Show 2012.  We have our Top Product Specialist Steve Ledin talking with shooting celebrity Iain Harrison, who is representing Crimson Trace.  Iain and Steve have hunted together before, and it’s awesome to see the two of them talking about some of the great new products at SHOT Show and to reminisce a little about past hunting and shooting experiences.

Iain Harrison won the first season of Top Shot, and he really knows his stuff when it comes to firearms and what works for real shooters.

Steve and Iain talk about the Crimson Trace Rail Master, which is a universal mount laser sight, so it’ll fit on pretty much any firearm with a picatinny rail, and it’s very adjustable for each individual shooter’s preference.  The Rail Master is very compact as well, so it fits on about 3/4″ of rail space.  Crimson Trace saw a need for a really versatile laser sight, and they’ve made one.  Awesome.

The Crimson Trace LightGuard was also shown off, with a few new models of this popular weapon light on display.  The most exciting new model of the LightGuard is for a Colt 1911, as it attaches to the trigger guard with no gunsmithing required.

There are a number of new Crimson Trace laser grips out now, but Iain also hinted at some really cool gear they have coming later in the year.  Crimson Trace’s SHOT Show display was definitely popular this year, and their new products made quite a splash.

511 Tactical Stryke Pants SHOT Show by GearExpert

5.11 Tactical Stryke Pants SHOT Show Video – Tough and Comfortable New Tactical Pants!

Posted on January 27, 2012 by Brian

The new 5.11 Tactical Stryke Pants at SHOT Show were a really cool new product that is definitely going to get a lot of use from hunters, shooters, and anyone who wants a tough pair of pants that is also comfortable to wear.  I wrote about these pants about a week ago in the SHOT Show Day 2 Recap, and it’s great to see some of the great features in this new video interview.

The Stryke Pants are such a cool product because they incorporate 5.11 Tactical’s proprietary new material Flex-Tac.  This material is not only incredibly tough, but it also stretches, so you can get into whatever position you need quickly and comfortably.  These 5.11 Tactical pants were designed to not add a lot of bulk or have extra loose fabric, which is what many companies do to allow for a full range of motion.  And just because they fit snug, that doesn’t mean they lack plenty of space to carry everything you need along with you.  There are extra pockets up front for a knife or magazine, an ID tag loop and more.

Trevor was really excited to see the 5.11 Tactical Stryke Pants at SHOT Show, and it’s easy to see why.  I can’t wait to get my own pair when they’re released later this year!

SOG Knives SHOT Show by GearExpert

SOG SlimJim and BladeLight at SHOT Show – New SOG Knives!

Posted on January 27, 2012 by Brian

SOG had some of my favorite gear at SHOT Show 2012.  I think there are a lot of people out there who don’t realize that there is still new technology going into making knives.  It may be an old tool, but it’s usefulness has never diminished.

SOG makes some of the best specialty knives in the world.  Not only are they incredibly strong and sharp, but they’re also very innovative and have intuitive features that you don’t see on other knives.

In the SOG SHOT Show Video Interview Chris Cashbaugh from SOG takes our Trevor Bending through some of their new products.  First up is the SOG SlimJim.  With ‘Slim’ in it’s name, you know this is a really compact knife.  Watching the video, I was amazed at how thin the knife is.  As Chris says, you probably can’t get a useful knife any thinner than this.  It’s really impressive.  And they have assisted open, so the blade pops out and locks in place quickly and easily.  Very cool stuff.  You should have no trouble slipping one of these in your pocket or backpack when you go hunting.

The other new SOG knife at SHOT Show is the BladeLight.  I wrote about it in our SHOT Show Day 2 Recap before, but I only had a photo at that point.  No you can see this great light in action!  So what makes the SOG BladeLight so great?  It has two LED lights built into the handle.  One light is on each side of the blade.  This is awesome because it means the blade won’t cast a shadow when you’re trying to cut something.  This is going to be super useful on camping and hunting trips.  Very cool stuff indeed.  Check out this SOG SHOT Show Video and keep checking back with GearExpert for more SHOT Show news!

5_11 Bag SHOT Show by GearExpert

5.11 Tactical New Products at SHOT Show – All Hazards Prime and MOAB 10

Posted on January 27, 2012 by Brian

5.11 Tactical premiered a sweet new bag at this year’s SHOT Show: the All Hazards Prime.  Bill Berry from 5.11 Tactical shows Trevor many of the features on the All Hazards Prime, but as they say in the video, there’s so much you can do with this bag that you would need a week of playing with it just to scratch the surface!  This tactical bag was designed for law enforcement officials who have to respond to a wide variety of situations and need a bag that’s versatile enough to handle whatever is thrown at it.

There’s room for a helmet, administration tools (pens, paper, IDs, etc.), goggles, a med kit, extra magazines, and way more!  There is MOLLE webbing in the bag as well, so you can customize its performance for your needs.  I like that 5.11 really thought about the modern needs too, so it’s not just your regular tactical gear that fits in the All Hazards Prime, but there’s also room for your laptop or tablet.

The 5.11 Tactical All Hazards Prime will be available this Spring, so keep checking back with OpticsPlanet so you can get it as soon as it is released!  Stay tuned to GearExpert as well, as we have another video of new 5.11 Tactical Products from SHOT Show coming!

Burris Eliminator III SHOT Show by GearExpert

Burris Video Blowout from SHOT Show 2012 – Burris Eliminator III, MTAC, AR332 & More!

Posted on January 26, 2012 by Brian

Burris had quite a showing this year at SHOT Show.  Our Burris SHOT Show Video has a ton of really cool new products that you can tell Trevor was really excited about.  It’s not hard to see why, especially with the new Burris Eliminator III Riflescope.  As Trevor says in the video, the Eliminator III was a surprise to us.  We’re already big fans of the original Burris Eliminator, which has integrated computer processors to help you compensate for distance and your cartridge.  Using a rangefinder is always smart when taking a longer shot, but switching from your rangefinder to your riflescope can cost your precious seconds, and you’ll lose sight of your target, even if it’s only for a moment.

The new Eliminator III, which should be released in July, has a number of improvements that you should get excited about.  The battery has been updated to give almost 5 times as many battery cycles as its predecessor, but it also has greater functionality, as it will compensate through it’s entire magnification range, so from 4x to 16x power.  That’s incredibly helpful and makes the scope that much more versatile than the original, which only compensated at 12x power.  The distance is greater, and the reticle has been updated as well to allow you to compensate for windage.  That’s a lot of great new features, and Trevor can’t wait to get his hands on this new Burris Scope.

Next up, Trevor and Burris’ Josh Lawley talk about the Burris FastFire III, which has a new sun shade so you’ll get a better view in broad daylight.  That’s huge for a lot of target shooters, and the new design for the battery allows you to change it out without unmounting the red dot sight.  The Burris FastFire II is a great scope, and these new updates are just making it better.

The Burris MTAC line has also been updated, with a low-profile target knob, and the rotation for magnification on the new MTAC is a single knob instead of the entire eyepiece, which will help those who like to use Butler Creek lens caps.  The reticle and quality of the scope retains the super high quality of previous MTAC scopes, so these new models are more of an evolution than a revolution, but it shows that Burris is paying close attention to their customers and their needs.  Very cool.

Finally, Burris showed off the AR332 Rifle Scope, which is currently available, and it’s a fantastic, bright scope with a ton of versatility.  Trevor really likes these new scopes and he’s was excited to see all the great new gear from Burris at SHOT Show 2012!  I only scratched the surface of all the amazing info in this video, so be sure to watch it now, and stay tuned, because we have more great SHOT Show Videos coming out all day tomorrow!

Nikon EFR Scope SHOT Show by GearExpert

Nikon EFR Rifle Scope Video from SHOT Show 2012!

Posted on January 26, 2012 by Brian

Our final Nikon SHOT Show Video of the day shows off quite a cool new product.  Steve is yet again speaking with Jon LaCorte from Nikon, who is showcasing the Nikon EFR Rifle Scope.  EFR stands for Extended Focus Range, and it allows for a greater range of magnification, so that if you really like your Nikon EFR (and you will!) you can use it on a wide variety of rifles.  The added focus range was designed with Rimfire and Air Rifle shooting in mind.  Air Rifle competitions are often at fairly close range, and you’ll have a hard time getting a clear image at those close ranges.

In addition to the close range focusing, the Nikon EFR Scope is very tough.  As Steve points out, this is especially important for spring piston air guns because of the unique recoil you’ll experience with those guns.  The EFR can stand up to that level of recoil and keep giving you a great shot.  This new Nikon scope at SHOT Show was very cool and we look forward to trying it out when it releases in March.

Trijicon TARS at SHOT Show by GearExpert

Trijicon TARS Rifle Scope Debuts at SHOT Show 2012!

Posted on January 26, 2012 by Brian

The Trijicon TARS is an exceptional new sight coming out this June.  Steve got to shoot with it a bit on Media Day, but Trevor talks with Trijicon‘s Myles Waterman in this SHOT Show Trijicon Video Interview and gets a few more details on the new scope.

The Tactical Advanced Rifle Scope has a big 34mm tube with 150 MOA elevation adjustments, which is pretty massive, so you’ll have a lot of room to use this scope in the field.  It has a versatile 3-15x magnification, so between the incredible ability to adjust, the wide range of magnification and the solid construction the Trijicon TARS Rifle Scope is perfect for hunters of all skill levels and for a wide variety of hunting styles.

Watch the video and learn more about the Trijicon TARS Scope from SHOT Show 2012!

GunVault Safe at SHOT Show by GearExpert

GunVault SpeedSafe from SHOT Show 2012 – A Vertically Mounted Pistol Safe!

Posted on January 26, 2012 by Brian

I already wrote about the new GunVault Vertically Mounted Pistol Safes last week in our SHOT Show Day 2 New Product post, but today we have video of these cool new safes in action, and they are even cooler when you get to see how they work!

The first few safes that Danny Lovio from GunVault shows Trevor are tried and true standards that people love already, with incredible construction and great technology like the biometric fingerprint scanner.  But it’s the GunVault SpeedVault that everyone was talking about at SHOT Show.  With a quick press of a finger the safe pops open at a 45 degree angle, which is perfect for a quick draw when you need it!

It’s best to see these new gun safes from GunVault in action, so check out the video above and stay tuned to GearExpert for more video interviews from SHOT Show 2012!

Nikon Monarch 5 SHOT Show by GearExpert

Nikon Monarch 3 & Monarch 5 Binoculars at SHOT Show 2012!

Posted on January 26, 2012 by Brian

As promised, here we have our video interview with Nikon’s Jon LaCorte, who is taking Steve through the many cool features on the latest additions to the Nikon Monarch 3 and Nikon Monarch 5 binoculars series.

We first got our hands on the Nikon Monarch 3 last fall, and they’ve been a huge success.  Hunters love them for their premiere glass, amazing prisms, quality construction and reasonable price, so it was great to see them at this year’s SHOT Show.

The other new binocular from Nikon is the Monarch 5.  We just recently added these binoculars to OpticsPlanet, and they are already looking like a favorite for 2012.  The prism transmits 8% more light than the already spectacular prism in the Monarch 3, so you’ll get a really bright image, and they’re also very reasonably priced.

Both Nikon Binoculars shown off at this year’s SHOT Show are fantastic for hunters, birders and outdoors enthusiasts, and with the exceptional quality behind all Nikon products you can trust them to be perfect for your needs, regardless of what you need to view.

Prostaff 3 Rangefinders by GearExpert

Nikon ProStaff 3 & ProStaff 5 Rangefinders Video Interview at SHOT Show!

Posted on January 26, 2012 by Brian

We have a lot of SHOT Show Video Interviews coming out today, so I’m going to keep on rolling them out as quick as I can.  Here we have our second interview with Nikon representative Jon LaCorte.  Jon shows Steve two new rangefinders displayed by Nikon at SHOT Show.  Both models are part of the Nikon ProStaff line of products, and will give you quality performance at a great price.

Watch as Jon first shows off the Nikon Prostaff 3 Rangefinder.  With one button operation, it doesn’t get much easier to operate, and it has a very fast processor for quick range finding.  This is really important when you’re out hunting and finally spot a buck after hours of waiting.  You won’t want to miss that shot because you were waiting for the rangefinder to figure out the distance.  It has a great range of about 550 yards, and the optics are nice and bright, so you’ll have no trouble seeing your intended target.  6x power is just right for finding distance, and the tough construction is both waterproof and fog proof, so you don’t need to worry about it breaking on you when you need it!

The Nikon ProStaff 5 Rangefinder was even more impressive.  The ProStaff 5 is actually a fair bit smaller than any other Nikon Rangefinder, and as Steve points out, though you may not think about the size very often, it makes a big difference when you’re trying to put it in or take it out of a pocket.  While the overall size of the Nikon ProStaff 5 is smaller, they made the ocular bigger, so you’ll have an easier time seeing your target.  An additional feature that really sets the ProStaff 5 apart is the LED illumination.  This LED can be turned on with a single button press, and your reticle will be illuminated for easier use.  This is especially welcome in the morning or evening, when light is scarce.

I’ve been really impressed so far with everything Nikon brought to SHOT Show this year.  I’ll have another video interview with Jon LaCorte up soon that talks about the Nikon Monarch 3 and Monarch 5 binoculars, so stay tuned!

Trijicon Battery-Powered ACOG by GearExpert.com

Trijicon SRS Red Dot Sight & Battery-Powered ACOG – SHOT Show Video!

Posted on January 26, 2012 by Brian

We have two new products from Trijicon in this video interview from SHOT Show.  They’re both going to generate a lot of excitement when they come out this summer!

First up, Trijicon representative Myles Waterman showed Trevor the Trijicon SRS, which stands for Sealed Reflex Sight.  This red dot sight has an amazing battery, a ton of features, and as Myles says, it’s going to be the ACOG of red dot sights!  That’s a tall order, but if any company were to come out with an ACOG quality red dot, it’d be Trijicon!

While on the topic of ACOG, Trijicon also showed their latest in that fantastic line of sights, the Trijicon Battery Powered ACOG.  Take all the amazing performance of the ACOG, from its perfect blend of magnification and image brightness to its durability and quick target acquisition, and add in battery power for even greater functionality and performance.  The ACOG is already one of, if not THE, most durable weapon sights in the world.  The illuminated reticle is fantastic, and it’ll help you stay on target in almost any situation.  But many users want greater control over the level of illumination, and they want to maintain that level regardless of the ambient light available.  The addition of a battery will give shooters the reticle they want regardless of the light, and what makes it even better is that it uses a AA battery!  And you’ll get about 12,000 hours of light at the most powerful setting!  Holy cow!

You need to check out this Trijicon Video Interview from SHOT Show!

ATN ThOR Sight at SHOT Show by GearExpert

ATN Night Vision & Thermal Imaging at SHOT Show – ThOR & OTIS Scopes & Monoculars!

Posted on January 25, 2012 by Brian

This latest video may be my favorite from today, as it features ATN’s SHOT Show products.  I haven’t written very much about ATN because the video really can’t be done justice with words.

You really have to see the amazing contrast, along with all the different color modes, the various reticles and more offered by the ATN ThOR Thermal Rifle Scopes.  I’ve seen some great thermal imaging equipment in action before, and I was still REALLY impressed by the quality of the image from the ThOR.  There were so many options to choose from, yet it seemed easy enough to use that you wouldn’t have to worry about getting confused while trying to use the scope on the battlefield or out hunting.  You can tell Trevor was really impressed as well.  The ATN ThOR should be available around mid-February.

In addition to their outstanding thermal imagers, ATN also showed off their night vision devices, specifically the ATN OTIS binoculars.  It is really packed with features, and has various output levels, so you can really get a wide range of uses out of the OTIS and the ThOR.

I know I can’t convey the amazing quality of these awesome new products from ATN, so I’ll just say one more time that you HAVE to check out the video.  These low-light imaging tools are truly revolutionary, and I’m sure everyone will be wanting them when they release soon!
