ATN Thermal Imager at Shot Show 2013

ATN Night and Thermal Vision Wins A Reader’s Choice Award

Posted on June 5, 2013 by Adam C

We’ve covered a wide range of awesome gear in this space, but ATN has some of the coolest. I mean, thermal and night vision? What’s more awesome than seeing in the dark? As humans, we’re not exactly predisposed to doing much in the dark. We’re just not built for it. Any piece of tech that lets us do things we wouldn’t ordinarily be able to do – in this case, see in the dark or detect heat patterns – is always a thrill for me. Thus, ATN is a pretty natural choice for one of my favorite brands.

It turns out I’m not alone, either. ATN has recently won the Predator Xtreme Magazine‘s Reader’s Choice Gold award for the Night Vision/Thermal category. Make no mistake, this isn’t some committee selection – plenty of hunting and tactical aficionados have confirmed ATN to be one of the best. I’m in good company.

ATN Thor320 Thermal Imaging Sight

The ATN Thor 320 Thermal Imaging Sight is serious business.

There’s probably nothing cooler than thermal vision. Perfect for hunting, tactical situations, and a wide range of other uses, thermal vision allows you to see targets based on the heat they give off. The usefulness of such a device is pretty clear – you’ll be able to sight down on your target without giving away your position even to infrared devices. ATN has a great selection of thermal vision units, too – their ThOR is well-known in the industry for being a powerhouse and a workhorse (and it’s just got a really cool name). It’s not something I’d pick up just to play around with – it’s a serious tool. Tell me if you’ve come across this – you’re using a thermal device to get your sights on your target. At the last second, you switch to a night vision device to take your shot and in that second, your game gets away. The ThOR eliminates this problem with its superior picture and fantastic reticle that will let you take the shot. If you’ve got the need, the ATN ThOR is the thermal device you want.

ATN Aries MK 350 Guardian NV Scope

Choose the ATN Aries MK350 NV Riflescope for low-light shooting!

Of course, night vision is indispensable for anyone operating in low light. It uses Image Intensifier Tubes (ITT) to enhance ambient light – or, in extreme situations, infrared light from an illuminator. Anyone who has gotten lost in the woods while camping knows the value of a tool that lets you get around. A flashlight can be useful, sure, but to stay discreet, you’ll want some night vision from ATN. The coolest thing they’ve got, in my opinion, are the night vision scopes. These bad boys mount directly to your rifle, and allow you to aim and shoot in extremely low light. I don’t know about you, but I hate having to switch between several devices, so this is a great choice for me.

ATN Cougar Night Vision Goggles

These ATN Cougar NV Goggles make me feel like a spy.

Plus, I just like the concept of looking like a spy, even if I’ve never done anything particularly clandestine. ATN’s Cougar night vision goggles give me the ability to feel totally cool, and plus they let me see in the dark. I’m going to grab a set of these before my next camping trip. I’m sure to be the envy of everyone in the camping site! What’s not awesome about that?

It’s clear that ATN deserves the recognition and accolades it gets. I’m always excited to see what they’ve got coming out next. You can’t do much better than the gear from ATN, so to that we send ATN a hearty congratulations!

ATN ThOR wireless thermal imager

ATN ThOR Wi-Fi Thermal Weapon Sight Accessory!

Posted on January 25, 2013 by Brian

It’s no secret that the ATN ThOR has been a favorite around the GearExpert offices.  I’ve written about these thermal imagers a few times since they debuted last year, and they’ve always impressed.  There is an incredible balance of quality, image resolution and a huge feature set that really separates the ThOR from other Thermal Imagers.  With the already high level of performance I imagine ATN probably struggled a bit to figure out a way to actually improve the ThOR, but they have.

It’s a Wireless Future for Thermal!

I heard someone say recently that the world is becoming wireless.  They were wrong.  The world IS wireless.  Nowadays we have phones that can do just about anything, or tablets that add insane functionality to everyone from corporate CEOs to infantry soldiers around the world.  ATN knows this, and they’ve taken advantage of the opportunities this presents.  Namely, Wi Fi connectivity for their ThOR Thermal Imagers.

Imagine being able to get a target in your sights when training and having an instructor help you figure out where to aim.  They’d be able to see just where you’re aiming instead of counting on you to accurately describe it or spend some brass.  Before you even pull the trigger your instructor can tell you if you’ll miss and why.  Maybe you’re not compensating enough for bullet drop or wind.

And of course it doesn’t just apply to training.  In the field you’ll have extra support, and being able to connect through Wi Fi increases your memory, so you can record far greater amounts of data through a laptop or your phone.  If you need proper records, this is the way to get it!

The new ATN ThOR Wi-Fi Weapon Sights are really quite exciting, so be sure to check out our SHOT Show ATN Video above to learn more!

SHOT Show Day 2 Recap Video!

Posted on January 17, 2013 by Brian

Hey everyone! I just wanted to do a quick post for our latest video recap, this time for Day 2 coverage! Trevor talked to a number of different brands on Day 2 of SHOT Show, including 5.11 Tactical, where he saw a fantastic new shooting bag that doubles as a shooting mat and more, ATN, where he checked out the new wifi adapter for ThOR Thermal Imagers, SOG, who showed off their new hunting knives, and MFT who had some great new camo patterns for their gear!  The video above is just a teaser of the longer, more in-depth videos to come.  Enjoy!

handheld ATN Odin

Who Else Wants a Thermal Imager That Fits in the Palm of your Hand?

Posted on December 20, 2012 by Brian

ATN has solved one of the challenges facing Thermal Imaging today: making a powerful and tough imager that’s also compact.  The new ATN Odin Thermal Imagers satisfy all three of these.  They’re Tactical Thermal Imagers that are the exact same size, weight and shape as ATN’s extremely popular PVS-14 Night Vision Monoculars.  That’s a perfect size for either handheld or weapon-mounted use.  Soldiers and police officers all over are enjoying this quality, but soon they’ll be able to do more because the Odin Thermal Imaging Monoculars will give them that same great size!

Thermal Imagers are pretty serious hardware, with a ton of great uses for hunting, home security, tactical operations and more.  While there are some good units on the market today that aren’t too big, it’s a challenge to find a compact unit that give good performance and can withstand a degree of abuse.  We’ve been blown away time and again by ATN’s ThOR Thermal Imagers, which we covered at SHOT Show and a few more times over the past year right here on GearExpert.  They have a ton of features to make them useful for many situations, and we love that.  The one drawback from having all these features is that they force the units to be a bit bigger and heavier.  This isn’t really a big deal in many instances, but if you want to use the thermal imager with headgear it might be a bit too heavy.

The Odin doesn’t have this problem.  It’s designed to work very much like the PVS-14, with a number of different ways to mount it, either on a firearm or on headgear.  All these mounting options played a big part in making the PVS-14 so popular.  You get a ton of great performance without being weighed down or constricted.  Having a thermal imager with the same potential is huge.

Whatever you mounted your PVS-14 on you can Mount Your Odin!

Whatever you mounted your PVS-14 on you can Mount Your Odin!

What makes the Odin even cooler is that ATN designed it to complement the PVS-14.  If you already have one of these great night vision units and the various helmet mounts, headgear or weapon mounts, you can use the same equipment with the Odin.  That’s HUGE!  I love that.  Let’s be honest: you put a fair bit of time into getting your gear just right, whether that be through sighting in a scope or adjusting headgear to your particular head.  Not only that, you also train with that gear.  You get used to a particular feel and performance, and how well you perform is largely based on your muscle memory and how well you can do something without thinking about it.  That’s the whole point of training, so if you get used to working in the dark with a night vision device that fights or works in one way, then have to switch it up and get a totally different feel, you probably won’t perform at the same level.  Granted, thermal imagers don’t do the same thing as night vision, but you’ll still be on familiar ground if you’re using a similar system.

ATN proved the quality of their designs with the PVS-14, so you’re already more than capable of trusting their performance.  Add in some truly phenomenal thermal imaging technology and you have one of the most exciting new products to be released this year!  If you’re not sure if the Odin is right for you, or maybe you’re looking for something else from ATN and can’t decide.  Check out my earlier post on ATN’s new Interactive Night Vision Catalog.  It has a ton of great info for selecting night vision.  And make sure you get your night vision at the web’s best source: OpticsPlanet.com!

Not Sure Which Night Vision Unit is Right for You? ATN is Here to Help!

Posted on November 21, 2012 by Brian

Night Vision is one of the coolest and most useful tools you can have at your disposal.  It’s great for a wide variety of functions, from hunting and tactical situations to home security or camping.  Dependent on your needs you might need a really high end pair of Night Vision Goggles or a compact NV monocular.  We have a lot of resources to help you find what you’re looking for, from our How-To Guides and blogs like GearExpert to our product specialists, who are always happen to give you a recommendation.  But it never hurts to have more information and another way of looking at a product type.  That’s where ATN has really stepped up their game.

ATN just unveiled their new Interactive Night Vision Catalog, or INVC, and it’s impressive.  You can check it out now by clicking that link, but the basic idea is that you have a really clear, easy to understand tool that shows you various types of Night Vision devices, their features, their prices, their uses and the technology behind them.  The first screen you see looks like the image at the top of this page.

As you can see, there are four possible choices to start with.  If you already know what type of night vision you want (goggles, monocular, rifle scope, etc.) you can select the first option and see a wide variety of choices and narrow them down by type.  If, on the other hand, you know what activity you’re using your night vision for, but aren’t necessarily sure which type of unit is best for that, you can pick the second option and see options for “Security”, “Hunting”, “Camping” and “Boating”.  Some of these categories will show you a handful of questions you should consider the answers to before making a selection, such as, for “Boating:” Will you be wearing the night vision unit while driving the boat?  You’d want something hands free for that option.  A monocular with head gear or goggles would be best.

ATN Night Vision by Price

ATN Night Vision by Price

The third option puts your budget first.  There are a ton of great ATN night vision units out there, and fortunately they’re at different prices, so if your budget is limited you don’t have to go without a night vision unit.  This section is helpful in that it also shows you how the different prices affect what Generation of Night Vision you can afford.  You won’t find any Thermal Imagers or 4th Generation Night Vision for a few hundred dollars, but you will find some capable 1st Gen units that are great for many situations!

ATN Technology

Check out the Technology Section of the INVC to learn more about the science behind ATN’s Night Vision!

The 4th section is my favorite, as it showcases the fantastic technology behind ATN Night Vision.  The really cool thing is it explains each different type of night vision, the science behind it, the performance you can expect and why you might choose one over the others.  This section also shows off just how varied the tech is.  From the most advanced Gen 4 units and ATN’s own White Phosphor Technology (which produces a black and white image rather than a black and green image for an easier view) down to the more affordable Gen 1 units that are perfect for more casual users.  This section is also fantastic for getting a better idea of the difference between image intensification night vision (which is the “normal” style with a black and green screen) and thermal imaging, which provides an image of the heat signature of a target.  Both styles will help you see in low light conditions, but they’re very distinct from one another and you shouldn’t think of them as interchangeable.  If you’re not sure which is for you, the technology section of the INVC will be a huge help.  You may not understand all the science behind night vision, but after looking through this section you’ll have a much better idea.

It can be tough to pick the perfect Night Vision unit, but when you have a great resource like the ATN INVC the task is a whole lot simpler.  ATN won a user-voted Brilliance Award for Night Vision Brand of the Year just a few weeks ago, and this new Interactive Night Vision Catalog Tool is a perfect representation of why: ATN gives you what you want and need.

Brilliance Awards Seal 2012

Want to Learn More about the 2012 Brilliance Awards?

Posted on November 8, 2012 by Brian

There are a lot of great things about November.  Football games on the weekends, Thanksgiving, Black Friday (I need a new TV!!!), the beautiful leaves falling and the chill that hasn’t turned to cold just yet.  It’s a great time.  It’s a time for hunters to get up early and enjoy the crisp air.

Those are all awesome things, but one of the coolest things about November is the Brilliance Awards.  I spend the whole year taking a look at some of the coolest gear we sell at OpticsPlanet.  GearExpert started shortly before SHOT Show, and that convention was really the first big thing I got to cover here.  Since then I’ve seen many of the new products first hand, and I’ve done my best to give you all the details so you can get excited about them.  In a way, the Brilliance Awards are a way for you to return the favor!  The awards are broken into two parts: the first is the “Customer’s Choice” Awards, and those are determined entirely by your votes.  The second part are determined by our very own experts.  These guys know their stuff and help me out all the time.  They also help you out, as they’re here to answer any questions when you need a rifle scope or binocular for an upcoming hunting trip.

The Customer Choice Awards are my favorite part though.  We asked you to vote on the best brands for various categories.  Let’s take a closer look at the brands you picked.

First up, we have the Best Night Vision Brand of 2012.  There were a few strong contenders here, but you picked ATN.  Not a bad choice.  I wrote about ATN a few times this year.  In September I gave you 5 Ways ATN Night Vision Helps You.  Before that I wrote about their co-witness night vision devices.  I liked those quite a bit.  They’re great for those times when you already have your regular scope sighted in and don’t want to have to re-sight in for a night time mission.  We also got to see some of ATN’s awesome Thermal Imagers at SHOT Show, and they were definitely a hit amongst everyone who got to see them.  It’s no wonder ATN was picked as the Best Night Vision Brand this year.

For Holster Brand of the Year you picked BLACKHAWK!  Another smart choice.  I wrote about BLACKHAWK! Rebates, my experience with a BLACKHAWK! Sling Backpack on a Camping Trip, BLACKHAWK! Women’s Clothes and, best of all, BLACKHAWK! SERPA Holsters at SHOT Show!  BLACKHAWK! is well known for their SERPA holsters, which have state of the art retention and unbelievable durability.  Our product specialists like them so much they picked the BlackHawk CQC Carbon Fiber SERPA Holster as the Best Concealed Holster this year!

Next, the top Red Dot Sight Brand is EOTech.  This one is no surprise, as EOTech has long been one of our top brands, and the quality of their holographic weapon sights can not be disputed.  Our specialists also named their EXPS3 Red Dot Sight the top Tactical Red Dot this year! I wrote about EOTech a few times this year also, and while I loved seeing the Zombie Stopper at SHOT Show, I think Kate’s Hog Hunt with EOTech was the best post on this top red dot sight brand this year.

Rifle Scopes Do Mean Happiness

Rifle Scopes Do Mean Happiness

Probably the biggest winner this year was Leupold, who was picked for not one category, not two categories but THREE different categories!  Rifle Scopes Brand of the Year.  That one is certainly well-deserved.  It’s no coincidence that when I made the rifle scope picture above I used a photo I took of the Leupold Gold Ring Scopes.  But Leupold also won for Rangefinder Brand of the Year.  They won this award last year as well, so their quality is as much about lasting performance as it’s about cutting edge technology.  Finally, Leupold won this year’s Spotting Scope Brand of the Year Award.  They showed a new Gold Ring Spotting Scope at SHOT Show that has proven quite popular.  Three Customer’s Choice awards in a single year!

Meade took home this year’s award for Telescopes Brand of the Year.  I don’t write a ton about telescopes here on GearExpert, but I love to see a fantastic telescope for a bit of astronomical viewing.  Meade brings the stars a bit closer with their award winning telescopes!

Oakley doesn’t really need any introduction.  They’re one of the most famous sunglasses brands in the world, and you selected them as the Sunglasses Brand of the Year.  Their sunglasses are not only some of the best looking in the world, but they’re also designed to be super high performing.  Oakley shades are used by athletes all over the world.  It’s not really surprising they proved so popular for this year’s Brilliance Awards.

SOG Knives are great for fighting zombies!

SOG Knives are great for fighting zombies!

SOG gets a lot of attention around the GearExpert and OpticsPlanet offices.  I see these knives featured on Dvor all the time, and I’m always getting to take a look at them.  SOG puts a lot of thought into their knife options, and the variety of features you can choose from really makes these knives fantastic for many different activities.  They’re especially good for hunting zombies.

Steiner Predator Xtremes

No doubt the Steiner Predator Xtremes contributed to their Brilliance Awards win!

Steiner won this year’s Binoculars Brand of the Year Award, and I think that has to do with their incredible durability.  I got to take a look at a number of different Steiner Binoculars this year, though I’d say the Predator Xtremes were my favorite.  We saw them at SHOT Show, but then I got to go hands on a while later, and they’re quite impressive.  Bright, clear glass and tough construction.  I loved them, and it appears you all did as well!

SureFire AZ2 on Mt. Rainier

SureFire AZ2 on Mt. Rainier

Last but not least, the Flashlight Brand of the Year Award went to SureFire.  We saw a TON of cool flashlights by SureFire at SHOT Show, and we took a closer look this summer at a few of their tactical flashlights.  Our video producer Devin actually took a SureFire AZ2 on a camping trip to Mt. Rainier in Washington, and it helped him check out some maps and find his way on the trails!

From my experience, it looks like you guys made some great choices for Brands of the Year for the Brilliance Awards, but I haven’t mentioned the most important Customer’s Choice Award yet: The Product of the Year.  This is the big one, and we couldn’t be happier to report that you chose our own OPMOD PVS-14 Night Vision Scope was chosen this year!  This is a Gen 3 Night Vision device that comes with a head mount and can be used for a ton of different purposes.  We are really honored to know that so many of you think highly of our night vision device.

There are many more 2012 Brilliance Awards winners that were picked by our Product Specialists, so be sure to check them all out to see the very best of the best!

ATN PS40 Gen 2 Night Vision System

5 Ways ATN Night Vision Helps You!

Posted on September 19, 2012 by Brian

Night Vision can really boost performance in a wide variety of applications, but you need the right model for the right purpose.  ATN manufactures a wide variety of night vision devices that can help you succeed.  I’m narrowing down the ways ATN Night Vision helps you to just 5 (there are easily more, but these are my TOP 5).

ATN Night Vision Headgear or Rifle Mounted

ATN Night Vision can be mounted on Headgear or a Rifle!

  1. ATN Night Vision comes in both handheld and rifle scope models.  This is really important if you’re a hunter.  It can be super helpful to use a handheld night vision device for home security or spotting animals on a hunt, but if you’re going to take a shot you need to keep you eye on the target until you pull the trigger. ATN Night Vision Rifle Scopes let you do just that.
  2. ATN has multiple generations of night vision – There are 4 generations of night vision, with generation 1 having been developed over 50 years ago.  Technology advances, and while there are some excellent first generation night vision units on the market today, each step up is going to give you quite a boost in performance.  ATN manufactures a wide variety of night vision to suit different budgets and needs.  If you’re just starting out with night vision and aren’t putting your life on the line with it a first generation unit may be enough, but if you’re a military or law enforcement professional you need the most advanced model available today to ensure you’re safe and effective.  ATN provides solutions for everyone.
  3. ATN Night Vision assists Ambient Light – Image Intensification Night Vision takes the ambient light in the environment and amplifies it to give you a nice view.  The only problem with this is that sometimes there’s no available ambient light, such as when you’re in a cave or building with no windows!  Many ATN Night Vision Devices employ an Infrared Illuminator to add light that’s invisible to the naked eye but adds plenty of light for night vision.  These illuminators boost performance significantly and give you a better chance of finding what you’re looking for!
  4. ATN pushes the boundaries of what’s possible for Night Vision – Constantly innovating helps ATN stay ahead of the curve.  Some of their advancements, like their White Phosphor Technology, help make the image produced by night vision more natural to the human eye, which therefore makes the use able to see more detail in less time.  New technology trickles down to you, as these innovations are made easier and cheaper than before, allowing for higher quality at more affordable prices.
  5. $200 Rebate on Select Second Generation Night Vision by ATN – Right now one of the most compelling ways ATN helps you out is with their new rebate!  If you check out the ATN Night Vision Units on this page you can see exactly which are part of this rebate, which is good on these models bought between 8/15/12 and 12/31/12.  See the full rebate for details.  Second Gen Night Vision is a bit more pricey because of the increase in performance, but this rebate certainly makes these ATN NV Units a lot more attractive, even if you’re on a budget!

And there you have it: the Top 5 Ways ATN Night Vision Helps you!  We have a variety of different models available right now that are included in the ATN Rebate, and they’re all at least Second Generation models!  That’s a huge deal, and really makes these high end NV Units more attractive price-wise.  Check out our ATN Rebates page or the Mail-In Rebate Form to see exactly which unit you can save a little extra on ATN Night Vision!

ATN ThOR – Thermal Vision from the USA!

Posted on June 26, 2012 by Brian

Ah, the day has arrived.  Can you feel the excitement in the air?  That’s from the ATN ThOR.  Since we first took a look at the fantastic new technology behind these Thermal Imagers by ATN at SHOT Show we have wanted to get our hands on them, and we finally have.  Oh boy!  They are truly something else.  I haven’t had this much fun with a thermal imaging device in quite a while.

First things first though.  Check out the video and the top of the page.  You’ll get a better idea of the various modes available with ATN ThOR Thermal Imager Riflescopes.  You have different color options for both the image and the reticle, which really helps you pick our your target and make a perfect shot when in the field.  Coupled with the various powers of the ATN ThOR (from the 1X ThOR to the 4.5X ThOR) you get the exact performance you want and need.  You can also change the shape of the reticle with the push of a button, so it’s easy and convenient.  I had a chance to try it out, and within just a few minutes switching views and reticles was second nature.  I can’t imagine anyone would struggle with the ThOR Rifle Scope with just a bit of practice.

ATN ThOR Rifle Scope

ATN ThOR Rifle Scope

It’s hard to describe the usefulness of changing the colors of the background and the color/shape of the reticle so be sure to take another look at the video above for a better idea.

But there are two more things I really like about the ThOR.  First, it’s tough.  I didn’t put it through an incredible amount of punishment myself, but just from holding it in my hands I could tell it wasn’t going to fall apart at the first bit of recoil.  That’s incredibly important for any rifle scope, but thermal imaging systems are especially delicate and temperamental.  You need an especially tough thermal imager if you’re going to mount it on a rifle, and the ATN ThOR did NOT disappoint.  I was really impressed by how sturdy and capable it felt in my hands, and I feel very confident that it can not only withstand recoil but also all the other banging around scopes and rifles go through in the field.

ATN-Facility Featured Image

ATN Facility Featured Image

But it’s the final thing about the ATN ThOR that I love the most.  It’s made in the U.S.A.  We just recently received the above photo from ATN that comes straight from their US factory, and even from this single image you can tell a lot of time, effort and love goes into developing these thermal rifle scopes.  I wouldn’t have it any other way.

There are a TON of great reasons to choose the ATN ThOR Rifle Scope for your low-light shooting needs.  From the incredibly clear image you’ll see in whatever color you choose to the sturdy construction done right here in the U.S.A., the ThOR is the scope for me.  And I’m sure you’ll love it too.

Bear Witness to the Amazing Quality of ATN’s Co-Witness Night Vision Scopes!

Posted on February 17, 2012 by Brian

As one of the world’s premiere manufacturers of night vision devices, ATN understands not only how to give you a great image in low light situations, but also that shooters need a great deal of versatility from their optics.  Anyone who has spent time sighting in their favorite rifle scope knows that it is hard to swap it out for a night vision scope.  The US Army saw that their soldiers had very specific preferences, and were most successful when using gear they are familiar with.  Because of this, the Army asked manufacturers for night vision devices that could work in conjunction with existing scopes.  Thus, co-witnessing was born.

ATN Night Vision is truly top of the line.  They’ve been able to combine advanced technology with extraordinary construction for night vision scopes that can stand up to the shock of recoil like very few other companies have.  But they always take a look at what YOU want and need.  They’ve heard the demand for co-witnessing with their fantastic night vision, so they developed a couple great new options.

The ATN PS40 Gen 2 Night Vision System (photo above) is a perfect option for those who love their daytime scope.  You need a bit of extra rail space to get both scopes mounted, but that isn’t a problem for most rifles.  What’s really cool is that once you’ve sighted in your regular scope you don’t need to re-zero when you attach the night vision.  This is really helpful for soldiers in the field who have missions that run from day to night.  They can’t spend time sighting in their night vision.  Hunters also really love the versatility, as nighttime hunting has grown in popularity in recent years as well.  The PS40 has 1X magnification, which is perfect for pairing with a magnified scope, since having two powers combined will throw off your aim.  The quick release mount enables you to use it as a handheld monocular and quickly switch to scope mounted, so you can use the ATN PS40 the way you want!

ATN PS22-3P Night Vision by GearExpertAnother really amazing option for night vision co-witnessing is the ATN PS22-3P Day/Night Tactical Kit.  This package deal comes with an ATN PS22-3P Night Vision scope AND either a Leupold Mark 4 Riflescope or a Trijicon ACOG Scope.  These are two of the finest daytime riflescopes in the world, and these packages have been put together to make it easy for you to get an AMAZING set of scopes.  Much like the PS40, the PS22-3P has 1X magnification, and it comes with an IR illuminator, which is extremely helpful for dark situations.  Night Vision works by amplifying existing ambient light, but in certain situations there’s virtually no light to amplify, which is where the IR Illuminator comes in handy.  While the light it emits is not visible to the human eye, it works like a bright flashlight for night vision.  It’s a really handy feature for any night vision device.

Also like the PS40, the ATN PS22-3P does not need to be re-zeroed when placed in front of your daytime scope, so you can attach it and go!  These are two absolutely fantastic night vision options from ATN, and they’ll keep you shooting at your best regardless of the lighting conditions.

ATN Night Vision & Thermal Imaging at SHOT Show – ThOR & OTIS Scopes & Monoculars!

Posted on January 25, 2012 by Brian

This latest video may be my favorite from today, as it features ATN’s SHOT Show products.  I haven’t written very much about ATN because the video really can’t be done justice with words.

You really have to see the amazing contrast, along with all the different color modes, the various reticles and more offered by the ATN ThOR Thermal Rifle Scopes.  I’ve seen some great thermal imaging equipment in action before, and I was still REALLY impressed by the quality of the image from the ThOR.  There were so many options to choose from, yet it seemed easy enough to use that you wouldn’t have to worry about getting confused while trying to use the scope on the battlefield or out hunting.  You can tell Trevor was really impressed as well.  The ATN ThOR should be available around mid-February.

In addition to their outstanding thermal imagers, ATN also showed off their night vision devices, specifically the ATN OTIS binoculars.  It is really packed with features, and has various output levels, so you can really get a wide range of uses out of the OTIS and the ThOR.

I know I can’t convey the amazing quality of these awesome new products from ATN, so I’ll just say one more time that you HAVE to check out the video.  These low-light imaging tools are truly revolutionary, and I’m sure everyone will be wanting them when they release soon!
