Hi

You're on the right track by going with waterproof models, both for a cruise and a trip to Alaska.

The Nikon and the Pentax are great values in a compact binocular. For the price, they are definitely a first pick in a waterproof compact.

The Celestron is a full size bino. If you don't mind the extra weight and size, the Outland will definitely work, but I'd scale back to an 8x for better steadiness onboard a ship.

we want binoculars for our beach house to view passing boats, dolphins, activity on beach, etc. Are the nikon 10x50 extreme a good choice, and if not what would be your recommendation?

Hi

The Action Extreme is an excellent choice - one of my favorites in that price range.
