I need an honest anwser
I also havve some relatives who are looking fir birding optics in this price ragne, their budget is $120 to $150 dollars Coulkd you recommend a few please. They want them in the same size 8x25 or possiably something smaller but no bigger than 25mm and no more than 8x. To be honest money is quite low right now for me, and I want this gift to be special, and I don't want to buy something that is bad.
Happy Holidays Everyone
My honest answer (the only kind I give) is that the 8x25 Prostaff, http://www.opticsplanet.com/nikon-8x25- ... ulars.html and the Pentax 8x25 UCF WP, http://www.opticsplanet.com/pentax-ucf- ... -8x25.html are the best compacts you can buy for the asking price of $120. Reverse porro prism optics give you the most optics for the dollar in a compact and the waterproof construction adds to the life of the bino. Eye relief on both models is good and focusing is is reasonably smooth.
Another good choice in this general price range includes the Swift 8x25 Trylite, http://www.opticsplanet.com/swift-8x25- ... ulars.html For a bit more, you can even get one of my favorite compacts in the Bushnell Custom Compact 7x26, The Custom Compact is not technically waterproof, but it is a very sweet little bino.
Any of these can be used a compact for birding, or for hunting, traveling, sports and so on - basically any application that calls for a compact.
