Which compacts are better:Steier, Pentax, Zeiss?

After reading your post- and thank you for responding, and further research I've narrowed my selection. If you could tell me which you think is best and why I would truly appreciate it. The use will be RVing around the country, light hiking, and an Alaskan Cruise. I do not wear glasses. I want to use these for a long time. The price range is $200- $290.

In no particular order:

Steiner wildlife 8.5X26
Steiner Merlin 8X24
Zeiss ClassicC series 8X20B T P
Pentax DCF MP 8X28

Again thanks in advance

You are very welcome.

Optically, I like the Steiner Wildlife (large objective, phase coatings, and good lens coatings - Steiner's best compact) and the Zeiss Compact, (solid optics, typical Zeiss, but small objective)

The Pentax DCF MP (phase -corrected, large objectives, but MP for medium performance. Good optics, but not Pentax's best) and the Steiner Merlin (nice bino, but not as sharp as the Wildlife) are good binos, but not quite up to the level of the first two.

Mechanically, I like the Pentax (great handling and smooth focusing) with the two Steiners next. I would rate the Zeiss higher, but it is not waterproof or armored and the focusing knob is rather petite, especially if you are wearing gloves.
