Tasco World Class 8 by 25 roof prism compact

A great most excellent buy! Picture this. it has an exit pupil of 3.3mm, a tad better than the majority of 8 by 25 compacts, whether roof prism or porro. Of course, it has bak-4 prisms. I would not consider buying a binocular unless it had bak-4 prisms. Here is the topper, though. Every list of model specs for this model on the web indicates a FOV of 370 ft. at 1000 yards. Bushnell acquired Tasco last year and apparently has upped the FOV to 435 ft! How many 8 by 25 roof prism (or porro) compacts are out there with a slightly better exit pupil of 3.3mm and a FOV of 435 ft? Not many, and Tasco`s inexspensive prices are misleading. Anyone who has ever bought a Tasco binoc will tell you that for a cheap brand, Tasco`s optics are surprisingly crisp and clear, belying their inexspensive prices.

Compact Binoculars

Postby Stan @ Opticsplanet on Wed Apr 21, 2004 9:06 am

Thank you for your interest in www.OpticsPlanet.com. The best thing about compact binoculars is their size. This allows for a light weight binocular that will not take up much space when hiking or going to the game.

Exit pupil is a measurement of the magnification divided into the objective lens size. The same size binocular will always have the same exit pupil. 8x25mm binocular, 25 / 8 = 3.1mm exit pupil. 10x50 binoculars, 50 / 10 = 5mm exit pupil. Exit pupil is used in helping determine the best viewing conditions for a binocular.

A binocular with a 6 or 7mm exit pupil is great for use in dusk or evening hours, and for astronomy. 5mm is excellent for all around use, day or evening. Less than that is primarily for bright light activities.

Tasco does have many good quality binoculars for a low price. In Fact, I have a pair of Tasco Platinum, http://www.opticsplanet.com/tasco-pm840.html, at home that I use all the time.

Let us know if there is anything else we can do for you.
Best Regards,
Stan Mack
