Legend HD review???

Joanie, I'm anxiously awaiting your review of the Legend HD with comments on edge to edge sharpness. Your opinion matters before purchase. Thanks

No best buy, just some excellent choices, such as the Pentax DCF SP, the Vortex Razor, the Meopta and so on. All excellent choices and really boils down to your personal preferences as to brand, handling and features. My personal favorite is the Pentax DCF SP for its excellent combination of optics, price and handling, but that's me. You may prefer the handling of an open bridge bino such as the Razor or prefer a Euro origin, such as the Meopta.

I have the Legend 10x HD now. Excellent optics. Ergonomics may fit some but not others, I get slight black outs and the eye relief may nit be the best in the world. Needs good IPD adujstment, the distance between the eyes.

Compared to other Chinese HD glass, they certainly are comparable, but individual preferences may favor one of the others. Still, a good buy for 300.

My Pentax SP 10x is a bit more solid in the hand, but definitely a touch less sharp. I do not have the Pentax ED version.

For 8x, I think I will stick to my old porros.

Hi ET

I actually preferred the handling and construction on the old model Legend, but, yes, the HD Legend is a good value when it comes to optics. To be sure, the new Legend HD is a completely different bino than the old Legend.

I still have the 8x32 old Legends. I like 8x32s, and generally use them for more than half the year. But the 8x32 Pentax SP is a little better in optics, so that one gets more use. When I travel, and birding is just an extra event, I take the 8x32. If someoine else needs a pair, I give them the Legend 8x32. I have 8x42 porros, but they are too heavy for most people.

Hard to say what Bushnell model these new HD are modeled after, the body. May be a completely new supplier, or perhaps the plant that makes Bushnell EX, getting into the premium glass game.

The Bushnell HD 8x42 may be the best buy for optics beginners, but I only have the 10x to look at now. Focusing from near to far is nearly one revolution on the knob. Not the slowest.

Hi ET

A new supplier for the new HD was my conclusion, too, or, at least, a supplier that makes one of the other Bushnell models. Either way, the Legend HD does have better glass, I agree.
