pentax NV 8x36 vs monarch ATB 8x36

Hello
Would You please comment about these binos, I am between the two. As i understand monarchs are lighter and good optics but have problem with eyecups and lenscovers. Which one You recommend? Binos are for hunting and nature viewing often poorer light conditions. thanks Ragnar

Hi

Two binos with similar features, in the same price range, both made in China, gets you basdically the same product. I don't think you will go wrong with either one and an 8x36 will have plenty of image brightness well past the time you need to turn lights on with your car. Pick the one that you want based on your preference for brand.

I would regard a difference in weight of 2 ounces to be only slightly more significant than objective covers and I don't regard that as significant, at all. In over forty years of never using objective covers on a binocular, I have yet to scratch a single objective lens. As far as I am concerned, they are a throw away item and I usually leave mine in the box when they are supplied. Don't dismiss the Monarch on that basis. Still an excellent choice.

Thanks for Your quick replay, I was wondering if pentax NV is ca3 years newer model than the monarch shouldnt it be more advanced optically than the monarch? What would be Your personal preference of the two and also if one bino with similar stats added to the list?
regards
Ragnar

Hi

The difference is more on paper than anything real. It won't translate into anything you will actually see out in the field. I have had such success with the Monarch, testing at least a half dozen over the last five years, that I am prejudiced in the Monarch's favor. However, it is not my decision to make;it is yours and if you have more confidence in the Pentax product description, that is good enough reason to choose the Pentax. I assure you, though, that either is a good choice for the money.
