roque vs prostaff vs vanquish
Which compact binocular model would be the best purchase for image quality and durability. I am choosing between nikon prostaff 8x25, vortex vanquish 7x26 (a bit larger front lens, then again being an older model) or the new release leupold roque 8x25. They all claim to be fogproof, fully multicoated and nikon claims to have aspherical eyepiece lenses. How to find the best, none of them are available in my area to feel them out in the store. Thanks for the help.
A difference in one mm - 25 vs 26 mm - is insignificant in terms of either performance or size, given that these are all reverse porro prism models.
In fact, all are very close in performance and you would be hard pressed to see a difference on an optical chart. If I had to pick one solely on the basis of optics, I would give a very slight edge to the Nikon, though you would probably have to put it on a char to prove it.
In terms of other features, you will have to decide on some of the finer points. For instance, the Vortex, on paper, does have a touch wider field of view, even the current 8x model, and also excellent close focus for a compact porro binocular.
In the end, I think it will be a matter of brand preference and warranty for you, but, again, all are excellent in this respect.
opticsplanet has sale item 62855 leupold compact bino 10x25 + knife 85.-, where the bino looks exacly like roque 10x25 allthough specs does not say that it is roque. If it is, then this means the roque is not that quality item compared to vanquish when offered like this without the label?
I tend to think that vanquish has wider fov, but because of that the edges would be blurier?
Please help me off the hook here. Thanks.
