STOLEN Binoculars. How can you tell?

Postby Tiredeyes on Wed Nov 10, 2010 12:40 am

Hi, Im looking to buy second hand binoculars (namely zeiss victory fl) and was wondering if there is any way to check if a pair I buy (particularly from eBay) is stolen? Perhaps by the serial number? I don't want to spend a lot of money only to end up with hookey goods. Apologies if this question has been asked, I did search.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

That's exactly what I would do - check the serial number with the manufacturer, assuming the binocular in question has a serial number. Less expensive models often do not have serial numbers, though. You can also ask for specifics as to where the binocular was purchased, if they have a receipt and so on. On E-bay, the seller's rating will also give you an indication of what you are dealing with.
