STOLEN Binoculars. How can you tell?

That's exactly what I would do - check the serial number with the manufacturer, assuming the binocular in question has a serial number. Less expensive models often do not have serial numbers, though. You can also ask for specifics as to where the binocular was purchased, if they have a receipt and so on. On E-bay, the seller's rating will also give you an indication of what you are dealing with.
