hey guys, got a few bucks for xmas and want to get a set of binocs. have a limit of about 350 so i know i won't get anything tip of the line but i'm only looking for something 10x for hunting & general use in western new york state. i have done a little reading and have narrowed my search to these:

leupold olympic 10x50
leupold wind river cascade 10x42
leupold mojave 10x42
nikon monarch 10x42 atb

what would be the best optically between these models? if there is something else i should consider please mention that but i am specifically interested in recomendations on those listed above.. thanks in advance and hope everyoone is having a great Christmas.
thanks,
aaron

Hi

Optically, it is really a toss up between the Olympic and the Monarch, if we were comparing both models in a 42mm objective. In fact, even the body design is similar on both binos. The 50 mm version of the Olympic gets you a touch more resolution and a bit more image brightness - at least on paper - but at the expense of extra size and weight. That's fine if you are hunting out of a blind, but I have never been a fan of 50 mm binoculars around your neck all day. As a carry binocular, a good 42 mm will do anything you need to do and as 42 mm binoculars go, the Monarch is as light as it gets.

The Cascade is a step down in image brightness and optics. With the Mojave, you get the open bridge design, which most, but not all, people prefer for handling.I'd rate it in the Monarch class for optics.
