Bins received from Optics Planet

Postby Guest on Tue May 10, 2011 8:36 am

Dear Moderator,

I recently bought a pair of Bushnell 10X42 Legend Ultra HD Binos from optics planet. However, after examining the bins immediately after opening the package, I noticed minor imperfections (1 or 2 small specks about 0.5mm in diameter) in the optical coatings of both the eyepiece lenses. Is this normal? Does it happen as part of the manufacturing process? Will it affect performance in any way?

Thanks!
Daniel

Hi Daniel

No it will not affect performance in any way, but, yes, those things can be annoying. If it is something you just don't want to deal with, please contact OP Customer Service and arrange an exchange.

The thing is that I live overseas and hence returning the product is rather inconvenient.

I am prepared to live with it but I would like to know.....does the coatings application process at the factory produce such cosmetic "defects" from time to time? Is it common? Would it be unrealistic to expect flawless coatings?

Hi

I understand. Yes, it does happen time to time, but generally, no, not very often. Again, not something that will affect performance or functioning, but sorry for the inconvenience.

Use very gentle lens cleaning if it is on the outside. If inside, that is annoying.

Eye pieces often collect droplets of water as they hang around the neck. Some dry to make dishwasher spot like rings.
