Minox BV II 8 x 25 BR or... suggestions ??

Postby Claren on Thu Aug 18, 2011 12:52 am

Just like the title asks: I like the look and stats of the Minox BV II 8 x 25 BR compacts, and would like opinions on whether they'd be a good choice of compact.

I want 8x magnification, to stay around this price range (although am open to go up too 200ish), and waterproof/dustproof. Optical quality and size are both more important than price.

For instance, how would these compare to the Nikon 8x25 Prostaff binos? Any other models I should consider?

Fine choice.

The Prostaff with its reverse porro design will have sharper and crisper optics, but the Minox gets the edge for slimmer profile and therefore handling. Also like the single hinge design which has a tendency to stay adjusted in use than the more common double hinge design. On the other hand, they won't fold up as compactly as a double hinge. If you need the compactness of that double hinge design, the Leupold Olympic 8x25 is a good choice and optics will compare to the Prostaff.
