Binocular vs monocular

Postby Wdh on Sun Jan 22, 2012 3:11 pm

So I'm looking for something compact for sports games etc. I'm going back and forth between the Leica monocular vs their compact binoculars which are actually cheaper. I think I'm going for the monocular but why would it not be cheaper than the binoculars since the binoculars are basically 2 monoculars. Is the monocular a higher quality glass? Thanks

Hi

I strongly recommend the binoculars. They are far more comfortable and easier to use than a binocular for any prolonged viewing. Monoculars are at their best for a quick peek kind look, but, beyond that, they will produce more eye strain, not to mention they are harder to steady and line up on target. Monoculars (see my article) are not a substitute for binoculars for any extended viewing.
