CZJ 10x50 refurb

Postby lmantuano on Fri Sep 07, 2012 10:26 pm

I'm in the process of dismantling my ZEISS DEKAREM 10x50, mainly to clean the back of the objective lenses.. I was hoping to be able to just unscrew the objective barrels without going through the painful removal of screw rings, eccentric rings, lenses etc..

Well, after removing the top screw-on "crown/cap", grabbed the barrel and tried to unscrew it but only the textured sleeve actually unscrewed a couple of turns and stopped by the inner part of the barrel.. so, tried to grab the very top of the barrel to unscrew it but it won't budge! I assumed the barrel is actually screwed into the body, but now I'm not too sure it's the case..
Has anyone done this or has an insight in how's done?

thanx in advance

The barrels are screwed and glued in. Any opening of the optical case will let in moist air, rendering the glasses useless during moderate temperature changes due to condensation on internal optics. They are not made to come apart on purpose.
