Big 5 did not have much selection. I don't know what other local stores or places would let me view before I buy. I bought a $15 pair off of amazon and was very disappointed in the quality. Now I have to pay $7.50 to return them. I'd like more confidence before my next purchase, this time a more expensive pair.
To view in person, you'll have to go wherever is available to you. Local gun shops, and big box sporting goods stores. Gander, Bass Pro, Cabela's. Or, buy online and be prepared to return them. Don't expect to be satisfied with anything for 15 bucks.

Another good place to see many different binoculars
is at a birding festival. Usually there are manufacturer reps there with product. But also birders are usually open to letting someone take a look throuh their personal gear. I found this very helpful when shopping for a spotting scope
