Leupold HD McKinley 10x42 vs 8x42

I'm considering purchasing these for deer hunting. I was wondering if anyone had used both strengths. I was wondering how the two compared in low light conditions. If they are the same I will probably go with 10x. If 8x is noticeably brighter, I will probably go with it. Low light performance is the most important feature to me because that is when the majority of our deer move. The extra magnification would just be an added bonus because I will not be using them for long distances, under 100 yards most of the time upto a couple hundred.

The 8x42s will be brighter, depending on your age. If you are a middle aged or older person, your eyes may only dilate to 4mm. Therefore, any exit pupil larger than that is mostly wasted. If you are a younger person, the 5.25mm exit pupil of the 8s will be a better choice. Many younger folks will have pupils that will dilate to 5 or more. The practical difference in the field regarding magnification is negligible, although 10s are a bit harder to hold as steady. so the 8x binocular is brighter, but depending on your age, you may not notice it.
