Use in construction, which one?

Postby woodart on Sat Oct 16, 2004 3:49 pm

I have never owned a pair of binoculars and will need a pair for checking chimneys and roofing on 2 story houses. Need to able to check mortar and condition of roofing. I have no clue as to what I need or I should be looking for. Can someone give me some ideas? Thanks.

Hi Woodart

The question is how much magnification will be enough to do the job? Normal 10x binoculars will bring an image ten times closer, but this may not be enough to inspect mortar on really tall buildings.

For this reason, you may want to consider a high magnification obeservation binocular such as the Pentax XCF 16x50, http://www.opticsplanet.com/pentax-16x50-xcf.html or the Nikon 16x50 Action Extreme, http://www.opticsplanet.com/nikon-16x50 ... -7247.html which offers the advnatge of being waterproof.

For even more magnification, a small spotting scope such as the little Bushnell Spacemaster spotting scope with angled eyepiece, http://www.opticsplanet.com/bushnell-sp ... black.html would offer even more magnification.

Thanks, took a shot at the Pentax you reccomended. Will see if that does the trick or helps me to figure out what I really need in the event it does not work out. Thanks
