Kowa 8x32 vs Steiner Merlin 8x32

Postby 1911 on Tue Aug 08, 2006 9:21 am

I've decided to add a nice 8x32 to my tiny array of quality optics. My price limit is somewhere around $500 this go-around.

At this point, I'm looking at the Kowa 8x32 and Steiner Merlin 8x32. I've never even heard of Kowa before, but they apparently have a good reputation. Steiner is well known of course, but I've been unimpressed with some of their lesser models that I've looked through.

What are your thoughts on these two? For that matter... are there any others that I should really be looking at?

Thanks!

Hi

Of these two, I like the Kowa and would rate it a sharper bino as well as a nicer handling bino.

In this price neighborhood, my first pick in an 8x32 would be the Pentax DCF SP, http://www.opticsplanet.com/nikon-lens- ... ystem.html

Thanks Joanie! I always shop OpticsPlanet first, primarily because of the time that you're willing to invest in this forum. It's a fantastic resource for optics buying.

Hi Joanie-

I know this is an old thread but is the the advice about the Pentax being the best in this price range relevant? What if $400 was my max? Thanks!
