Oberweck Giant Binoculars

Postby bolop on Thu Jan 25, 2007 12:46 pm

I am currently considering spending approx $1500 on a Oberwerk Giant Binocular, either the 25X 40X 100 or 25X 62X 100. I am a novice and would like to get a a piece that will allow me to examine the sun, moon and the stars. From your professional perspective, would I be wise to get the Oberwerk or something else. Thanks

Hi

We don't carry solar filters for binoculars, so can't help you on observing the sun.

The Oberwerks are good choices, especially the models which use standard 1.25" telescope eyepieces. You should also consider the Vixen BT80A Astronomical Binocular BR-GT-1431FM for its excellent overall quality (made in Japan, not China, like the Oberwerks). it also uses standard 1.25" telescope eyepieces.
