Do you have any recommendations regarding the Minolta binocs or another brand?

Both binoculars are excellent for day use. I would generally recommend the 10x50 as it has slightly longer eye relief, 18mm as compared to 16mm, and will yeild a slightly brighter image with the 5mm exit pupil, which is recommended for astronomy. Since you would like to use them by hand, the 10x will be easier to hold with a less shaky image. Although, both units are tripod adaptable, in case you change your mind.
The entire Minolta Activa line have Fully-multicoated lenses. The only difference between these two binoculars is their magnigication. I don't know what lens element you're referring to, but they should be the same.
