Re: aimpoint question
In a nutshell, no. Aimpoint makes the absolute most durable red dot sights on the market, bar none. I really like the EOTechs, though, too, although not in the same league in terms of durability and toughness as the Aimpoints.
There's a simple way to avoid counterfeits. Buy from a reputable dealer. We get all our Aimpoint sights directly from Aimpoint. I do have a phony Comp M4 Aimpoint that someone sent me. Externally they are made so accurately it's scary and sad. Internally they are a joke, and they also have a green reticle option. Aimpoint has only red dots, no other colors. Without knowing how to tell it's a fake, you won't know, besides performance.
When Aimpoint sends their people out for training, they often shock people by throwing some sights around. Literally. On concrete. Off walls. Incredible. As tough as nails. No wonder hundreds of thousands are in use by our troops.
That being said, if you're not a soldier, there are many sights out there that perform excellently. The EOTechs, the Docters, the Trijicon Mini Red Dot and Reflex sights. The Vortex StrikeFire is pretty good, as is the Burris XTS.
