Red Dot or Reflex Sight for M1 Carbine .30cal

Postby bookbound on Fri Jun 04, 2010 11:24 pm

I have an accurately shooting IAI carbine that the front sight picture is rotated counter-clockwise 3-4 degrees. I believe it was milled off center. Replacing the barrel or putting an optic on it are my only 2 options if I want to keep this beautiful, accurate, and reliable carbine. (May try to untighten barrel a little to center sight - still investigating this as a possibility). Will purchase the barrel mounted Weaver rail sold by Fulton Armory for my optics. Can you recommend a reflex sight that is clear, accurate, with an easily captured sight picture, and compact enough to fit this small carbine. May consider Red Dot Scope, but Reflex first choice. Price up to $100+. Thanks for suggestions to any/all above. Mike

The Sightmark mini red dot should work for you well. You'll hardly feel that it's on your gun. With the sight on top of your base it should offer a dot somewhere around the height of your front sight. It's not a Trijicon RMR or a Docter, but you're only paying a fraction of the price.

honestly for that price the sightmark red dot that steven l listed looks pretty sweet. i just set up my m1 carbine with a synthetic stock that is a little longer then the original for more comfortable cheek placement, as well as a rail system. i borowed someones standard eotech sight and that was pretty awsome. i was hitting targets with out spending any time aiming in and they were dead center at around 50-60 yards. granted thats not some insane hard shot but it was nice having that fast of aim with accuracy. the down side is eotech is a pretty expensive sight and is very bulky for such a small riffle. id definetly consider getting that sight mark mainly cause its low profile and large field of view, plus at that price it really wouldnt matter if it craps out after a couple hundred rounds ya know what i mean? theres a few companies that make rail mount for them but my was off of and i couldnt be happier with it.
