EO Tech 557 MPO vs EOTech MPO II?

Postby ckelly33 on Tue Mar 22, 2011 10:53 pm

Looking for a scope for my Smith & Wesson M&P 15 .223. Was originally looking to get the EO Tech 557 MPO but I see a newer and cheaper alternative, the MPO II. Can you tell be what the differences are? It look to me like the MPO II offers an EXPS3 sight while the 557 MPO offers a 557. Is this the only difference? Again what are the differences between these to sights?

THanks.

Biggest difference between the two will be the size. The 557 is about 2'' longer than the EXPS 3. This is due to the 557 using AA batteries linear to the sight, while the ESPS3 uses one CR123 battery that is mount transversely to the sight. This allows the sight to be much shorter and a better fit on a flattop where rail space can be a commodity. Both units offer the same four dot reticle.

Thanks! I have one last question...

In regards to the EO Tech MPO EXPS3, I notice it has an option for $63. What does the option add? The description seems unclear.

The model for $63 more will be the 4 dot reticle calibrated for the 223. The less expensive model will just be a 2 dot reticle as the original EXPS3 was.
