Alternatives update:
Maui Jim sunglasses are not too bad. I got a pair hoping that they might come close to the good old SunClouds. Nice, but not even close to SCRs.
This company Bucci (http://www.buccisunglasses.com/tech_specs.php) makes a polarized glass lens called "Rose - Specific Zone Technology™". The specs say they have a split mirrored lens with 7-10-7% light transmission. Has anyone tried these? I'm tempted...
Bring back the SCRs!! |

Below is a email that I recieved from Smith Optics
Hi Jeff,
Thank you for inquiring about SunCloud. The Suncloud line was recently re-launched. At the present time we can not direct you to a retailer as we are just beginning to sell and ship the Suncloud line. Please inquire at your SMITH retailer to see if they will carry it. If you wish to check back in a few weeks we can direct you to the nearest dealer. Meanwhile, please bear in mind that the SunCloud line we are launching is different from the SunCloud you may be familiar with in many ways, however we’ve retained the rose lens tint that SunCloud made famous. Thank you again for your inquiry.
Sincerely,
C Tullis

|
|
| I JUST PURCHASED ABOUT 8 PAIR OF SUNGLASSES FROM SOMEONE WHO BOUGHT OUT AN OPTICIAN GOING OUT OF BUSINESS. AMONG THESE WERE A PAIR OF SUNCLOUD SUNGLASSES WITH THE ROSE LENS. THEY ARE THE VINTAGE ONES BUT STILL NEW WITHOUT THE BOX AND I THINK THEY HAD 2 PAIR BUT I HAD NEVER HEARD OF THEM SO I ONLY GOT ONE PAIR. BUT I NOW WILL GO BACK AND SEE IF THEY STILL HAVE THE OTHER PAIR ALSO. I WILL BE LISTING THESE ON EBAY TONIGHT UNDER MY EMAIL NAME: PEANTIQUE. YOUR SITE EDUCATED ME ON THESE GLASSES AND I WOULD KEEP THEM BUT I HAVE TO HAVE CLIP ONS. DO YOU HAPPEN TO KNOW IF THEY MAKE THE CLIP ONS IN THIS STYLE? |

Just found this link. I spent many years looking for SUNCLOUDS as well. GOOD NEWS! There is a seller on ebay selling many styles for $49. I am not affliated with them, but have just purchased 2 pairs being called the 2006 model. Thought you might like to know. I have also purchased on ebay a vintage pair in excess of $135. They have been great. Another seller had a futuristic looking pair that I got for my husband last year for $39. He has been very happy with them and "amped" when he thought he had lost them. It may be worthwhile to check out ebay again, as I have not found them other places yet. |

Hi
Sorry, we don't carry that line, so we cannot offer any feedback from customers, but perhaps one of our guests can help. _________________ ----------------------

| I too have been searching for these sunglasses for along time. I am seeing a couple of websites that are now selling Sunclouds but I don't think they have the original type of rose or amber lenses and the original lense is what made them so great. Has anyone tried a pair of these new Sunclouds? |

I too have been searching for Sunclouds for a few years...and I found a pair w/ Rose lenses yesterday in Dallas, TX. I bought them at a store called "Whole Earth Provision Company" near Mockingbird Station. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw them...being a Suncloud Rose fan I couldn't understand how there were any left. They had approximately 60 pair of Sunclouds there...5 frame types w/ rose lenses.
The glasses I bought were $50 and are polarized as well. The glasses are tortoise frames w/ rose lenses...I think they are the "Hook" model (they are a rectengular shaped frame). I think all the frames were $50.
It's so great to be looking at the world through rose colored lenses again. I have red/green color deficiency and I swear that the rose lenses almost add a "new dimension" to my vision. |

| No one can understand our love of Suncloud's rose-colored lenses, but those who have owned them. I've had Maui Jim's and Serengeti, but still nothing is equal to my 80's-90's Sunclouds!! I am anxious to hear if anyone else has compared the new suncloud model to the old one.... |

I just found your posts and I'm very glad that I did! I'm a buyer for The Charleston Angler and we are considering carrying SunCloud. We were recently shown their 2007 line. They are now a part of Smith Sunglasses and are in the $50 range. They are polarized and they have many options with the traditional rose colored lens. They have a website that isn't up yet, but it's suncloudoptics.com. Their contact info is on that site though. I strongly believe that you will be able to find them much easier now, as they are being sold alongside Smith. Good luck!

A. Does anybody have technical information on the process or characteristics of Suncloud SCR lenses? I am designing a product, not sunglasses, where I wish to use a part of an SCR Rose lense because of its unique characteristists.
Also,
B. Does anybody know if information like this is propriatary or common? _________________ Walt Johnson
