Hi I am about to buy my first telescope and am looking at a Meade LXD 75
and would be grateful for any advice on this telescope.

Hi

Good mount and a 6" in years past was standard equipent for a reflector for "serious" astronomy. Far better scope than most folks start with, so go for it. I especially like the SN design. With this scope, you can observe both deep-sky and planets and you're all set if you want to begin some astrophotography.
