Scope for 11 year old

Hi,
Looking for a XMas Telescope for a 11 year old boy. Considering:

Meade NGC-70TC

or

Meade 4.5 Telestar

Would one be recommended above the other ? Price difference is only $20.
Other suggestions in the price range would be welcome.
I live in a suburb of NYC which is rather light polluted if this is a factor.

Hi

It's refractor versus reflector question.

Although the refractor (NGC70) will have the edge in durability, the reflector (Telestar) will have a definite edge in performance by virtue of its larger size. It is also a fully automatic GOTO telescope with automatic tracking, a feature you do not get in the NGC70
