| My husband is an attorney and has encountered eye problems this year with retinal surgery. Correction has been fairly successful; however, he is having trouble reading the small print in newspapers, magazine articles, cases, etc. which he must do every day. I want to get him a very good magnifier to keep in his office to help him out, but I am really confused by all the types, brands, etc. Flat page magnifiers are no good. He has been using a cheap pretty big round one that we bought at an office supply but has currently misplaced it. Please help me by simplifying the choices which are best for someone who needs this for reading. Thanks for your help. |

Hi
The best option is always to consult with an eyecare specialist and get prescription glasses or reading glasses. You can use a hands-free magnifier, but these are always going to be low power, usually about 2x, and much clumsier to use than reading glasses. Simply no such thing as a high magnification magnifier that is suitable for reading, since diameter of the lens in a magnifier always gets smaller as magnification increases. By the time you get to 10x in a magnifier, lens diameter is a fraction of an inch. _________________ Thanks for posting with us

| Thanks for the response. My husband has reading glasses; however, he has found himself much more comfortable with a magnifier. He actually takes off the glasses because he says they absolutely frustrate him. They were prescribed by doctor who told him to try the handheld if he felt more comfortable with that. He does not use the magnifier for long periods. |
