| Looking for a good beginner telescope for my wife. I would like to stick to the Meade brand. Have been looking at the DS-2130 ATS, the ETX 70 AT, the ETX 80 AT, and the ETX 90 AT. Any advice and/or assistance would be greatly appreciated. |

Hi
The DS2130 will have the largest aperture and hence the most potential for deep-sky objects such as nebulae, star clusters and galaxies. If optical performance is your primary concern, this is the best choice.
The ETX-90 will have the best and latest autostar program, the 497, which offers a larger database and a bit more sophistication than the lower featured 494 found on the other models. The ETX-90 won't have the optical potential of the 2130, but it is certainly more portable and will require less maintainence than the 2130. Also, if you plan on going to a larger scope someday, the ETX-90 will make a better backup or travel scope.
The ETX-70 is no longer available and has been replaced by the ETX-80. The 80 is a great value in a small, compact scope, but in terms of the mount and computerization, it is definitely in a lower class than the ETX-90. _________________ ----------------------
