I have narrowed my search to these two for my son. Which is better? The 114 seems very popular and there seems to be a consensus on needing an additional finder and eyepieces/Barlow lens. What about the 130? What are the performance differences between the two?
Since the main factor in telescope size is diameter of the mirror or lens, a larger scope is a better choice if you want a scope that has potential to maintain an interest in astronomy. A small telescope can see exactly the same TYPES of objects as a large telescope, it just cant-see as many of them or as much detail in them. If you are concerned with performance, buy the largest telscope you can afford that has all the features that you want. o with the 130 if you can afford it. _________________ Thanks for posting with us

Ok, I get that, thanks. Since the 130 is the same price right now I'll go with that.
Does the 130 have the same issues with finder/lenses? I assume it does. What eyepiece and/or Barlow lens do you recommend?
Thanks very much.
A good upgrade, in terms of eyepieces, is the Meade ETX eyepiece kit, 07851. _________________ Thanks for posting with us
