| Hi, I would like to know which spotting scope is the best, Swarovski HD20x60x80 or kowa ? or a zeiss or anything else made. Will be using from a tripod or window. looking long range at deer and elk. will pay the money if needed. name don't matter just the best clarity. |

Hi
Forget the notion of best. No scope I have ever tested scored best in every category and all of these score with a hair of each other for any category. I rate premium scopes to start with a Nikon Fieldscope 82ED and go up from there. Mostly a matter of features you want - size, focusing, eyepiece selection and so on, as well as brand preference beyond that point. Optically, anything from the Nikon on up is excellent and will bring a smile to the fussiest optics nut (like me). . _________________ Thanks for posting with us

Joanie is correct. When you get into that range, it comes down to personal likes. If you can find a birding group in your area that is having a field trip, try to go with them. Many of the better scopes will be represented and birders are not selfish about sharing. Look through all you can in a field use, then decide. My personal choice, after looking through everthing I could find was the Kowa, but Swar, Lieca and Zeiss are all great scopes.
