In perusing the Optics Planet site, I notice that most advertised prices concern "Demo" models, and there is an additional charge for "new" binoculars.

My question is just what is the condition of a "Demo" set of binoculars? Are they opened, returned binoculars in torn packaging? Are they really salesroom demo units, handled by perhaps hundreds of prospective purchasers? Are they broken or damaged units refurbished by the factory to "like new" condition?

I really doubt that there is a real showroom at Optics Planet. So just what is a Demo set of binoculars?

Hi

All our products are new, direct from the manufacturer, with all accessories and full warranty, unless otherwise specifically listed as a demo or refurbished. We do not carry used products.

A demo is a product that has been taken out of the box for display purposes, but has not been sold and used. A demo may have some minor cosmetic blemishes, but is otherwise as new, with all accessories and full factory warranty uness otherwise indicated.

We only seldom generate a demo on our location. Most of these demos are offered to us by the manufacturer to sell to our customers, but due to the nature of a demo, we cannot predict supply or availability on a regular basis. Pretty much have to wait for a manufacturer to offer them to us.

I appreciate your prompt reply. In light of your reply, am I to understand that if I purchase, for example, a Steiner 10X50 Police model, which is listed at $359.95 for the Demo (with an option to purchase a "new" model for an additional $40.05), then there is a good chance I will in fact receive a "new" model in the circumstance you are "out-of-stock" of demo units in that model, and without the additional charge of $40.05?

Hi

No, definitely not. If you want new, expect to pay the new price. On Steiners, you also need to check the statement as to warranty and accessories and, as previously stated, demos are subject to availability from the manufacturer.
