Lord give me patience and give it to me right now!!
In a rush to make a mediocre decision?
The answer is none of the above.
You don't bother to say what kind of range (as in distances) you will be shooting, is this strictly target shooting, any hunting at all, varmints? daylight only, dim light, nothing, but you want us to figure it out for you in less than a day.
In general I would take the Bushnell 3200 over the Simmons any day of the week. |

| Dear MrGman: You're right, so I'll give You the details about the use of the scope. Use about 200-300 yds, only target and mostly in good weather. Rifle is a 308Win. I'm in quite a hurry to buy it, and I found strange no one answered because there are a lot of people in this forum. Anyway thanks for Your input (although You don't explain either why You'd pick the Bushnell). Best regards, THUD.- |

I don't realy like high magnification more than what I need. Its not about seeing bullet holes its about being on target. Higher mag fatigues your eyes faster (both of them even though you only put one in the scope), gets mirage effect greater and you need higher quality of scope to really see clearly with. The greater then mag the more money you should really spend.
Next. I have had very good luck with any and all of my Bushnell scopes.
I just made a bad decision about a month ago. I thought I would try the Vortex Diamondback 2-7 instead of going with the trusty Bushnell. Its supposed to be fully multicoated yet it has an odd glare. I don't know that it holds zero all that well yet either, still working on that.
I mounted a high power LED flashlight to the rifle and was testing it out in the dark in the garage against a brown wooden door and a plain white piece of paper target grid. The glare that came back through this thing was terrible. I pulled out all my bushnell scopes, Banner series, Legend Series, Trophy series , whatever, none of them had this problem.
I won't say simmons are bad, I just put more faith in the Bushnell 3200 or must Bushnells series over the years. 15X is plenty out to 300 yards. It will be clearer in general, the exit pupil won't be so bad. If you didn't really need the mildot reticle I would say go with the Browning 5X15X40mm (made by Bushnell) its equivalent to the 4200 series but without the rainguard. But I haven't seen them with mil-dot reticle. I use one on my 308 and it has made all my friends jealous. |
