Can anyone identify these suncloud sunglasses?

Postby Tom on Sun Jun 05, 2005 10:04 am

I just picked up a pair of Suncloud glasses at a local thrift store. I got them mainly for the way they looked never having heard of Suncloud before (not much sunshine in Buffalo, NY). When I put them on I found out how fantastic they were! Here's a description:

Tortoise shell arms with Suncloud (O in cloud looks like an upside down U) on the left side. On the inside left it has Korea and 2 rectangles transposed over each other. There is also a metal wire running through the plastic the length of the arm.
Black metal around the oval lenses.
tortoise shell nose piece.

Lenses look slightly mirrored on the outside and slightly blue on the inside.

The case is black leather with an S with an angled C on the flap and Suncloud (same type of O) on the lower right side.

Any help in identifying these glasses would be greatly appreciated. The google search was next to useless except for this group.

One more question, anywhere I can get a pair for my wife (other than eBay)?

Thanks for your help,

Tom

Sell us Sunclouds-

I have located the owners of the rights to Suncloud sunglasses. They have recently been acquired by a large, international company that manufactures and markets sunglasses. This company has decided to cease production of the Suncloud line. I was told that they do not believe the market for Sunclouds is large enough to warrant continuing their manufacture at this time. They are under the impression that the popularity of Sunclouds is for the most part concentrated in only 2 to 3 states in the USA.

I believe that there are many more people who appreciate "seeing the world through rose colored lenses" than the company is aware of.
I think it's a case of extremely poor marketing and a lack of exposure on the manufactures part. Sunclouds were available up until a few months ago, and I have found very few people or sunglass dealers that were aware that they were once again available.

I'm hoping that if enough interest can be documented and presented to the holders of the Suncloud rights, they will reconsider their decision to cease production. Thousands of signatures equates to thousands of dollars.

sunclouds

Postby Guest on Thu Jun 23, 2005 6:19 am

Hi all my sunclouds broke last year. Just can't find anything as good. I have not even bought any other sunglasses.
It was mentioned there is no international interest I am in the Bahamas. I know of 3 others wishing they could get sunclouds.

Been almost a week, Ive posted on at least 15 different forums, and THIS THREAD HAS OVER 3000 VIEWS, but there are only 3 lously signatures on the petition. I guess I was mistaken regarding the popularity of sunclouds. Weak!

Sunclouds are the best

Postby Suncloud-less in Seattle on Wed Jul 20, 2005 10:52 am

hello fellow Suncloud fans:

I have been a devoted Suncloud wearer since the mid-1980s, when I first discovered them while living in San Diego. I love looking at the world through gold-dusted, rose-colored glasses that are made of real glass, not plastic. I have been through three pairs since then (Bausch and Lomb fixed one pair for free), but I haven't been able to replace the pair I broke several years ago because I just can't find them anywhere. I have looked and looked and looked, in several cities. Most of the sunglass sellers I've met don't even know what I'm talking about when I ask for Sunclouds. Thanks to these postings here, I now know what happened to my beloved Sunclouds -- they're not being made anymore. Waaaaaaah!

I am 100 percent in support of bringing Sunclouds back, and will sign any petition to do so. I miss them desperately. I've been clinging to my cheap drugstore sunglasses for a couple of years now just waiting for the Sunclouds to reappear.

Message to Z: Get that distributorship going! E-mail me when you do!

Thank you for doing all this research. I too am very interested in purchasing new Sunclouds as well. I have made some phone calls & sent some e-mails. I just got this phone # - maybe it will help!

Anonymous wrote:Ok, after some very intensive research I know what the real deal with suncloud is. They were indeed out of business for a few years. Another company ( outlook eyewear ) began manufacturing them again a couple of years ago. Yet another company bought outlook ( safilo ) and has decided that suncloud does not have a large enough following to warrant their marketing at the moment. Inside info I received is that colorado and So. Cal are the only real markets for suncloud. I was told there is no international interest in them.
I found all of this out because when they were available recently, no one even knew about them. I was lucky enough to find them at a tiny local retailer. Sunglass hut, and every other place online didnt even know they were available again. I wanted to become a distributor, because sunclouds
are the best and I thought there were enough people out there who would agree with me. I figured all these people wanted them, but didnt know how to get their hands on them.

I actually have the Sales directors contact info, and was told if a good amount of interest could be proved, they might be willing to reevaluate the decision to stop production.

I guess Im wondering if the market is actually as small as they believe, or if it might be possible for us suncloud enthusiasts to band together, spread the word, and begin to see the world through rose colored lenses once again. Any thoughts?

Please let me know if a Suncloud retail source becomes available. I too believe they are the best sunglasses ever made no matter how much you are willing to pay. My last "roses" were stolen and I really would love to purchase replacements. I signed the petition, if there is anything new please post.
