Does anyone know the brand/model of the sunglasses Al Pacino wears in Carlito's Way?

When I searched for a picture of the sunglasses, I found a reference to a model by Ray-Ban that I did not find in the current collection.

The sunglasses I saw have design influences from both Aviator Sunglasses and Pilot Sunglasses.

In the current collection of Ray-Ban Sunglasses, some models in the Ray Ban Highstreet Series have a similar look.

In particular, see the Ray Ban Aviator Highstreet RB3293 Sunglasses, the Ray Ban Aviator Highstreet RB3322 Sunglasses and the Ray Ban Aviator Highstreet RB3267 Sunglasses.

Stacy,

Thank you for the post. From my online research they seem to the green lenses with the Arista frame. The Ray-Banlenses are Green G15. The Explorer II seems to be vintage but the Ray-Ban Outdoorsman II Rainbow Sunglasses RB3407 is current.

I hope this helps.

Hello Larumd,

The technical name is the Explorer Outdoorsman 2 (due to the brow Bar and bigger lens size). The Explorers had no brow bar but the Explorer Outdoorsman did so please accept my apologies.

Bauch & Lomb who made Ray Ban until its sale to Luxottica made many lenses, including G15 B15, G31 Top Gradient Mirror Double Gradient Mirror and Full Mirror, RB50 Ulta polarised mirrored changeable, Ray Ban glass polarised lens, G15 & B15 Diamond Hard gold mirror, Kalicrome, assorted other changeables including grey, , brown, green, blue, amber(matic) which were also mirrored and the ultra rare pinkomatic with when cold go a ruby red, overcast weather are pink and hot go a browny pink. The Ambermatic and superrare pinkomatic are temperature sensitive as well as light sensitive. They also made gradient lenses that were mirroed on the inside and also the FANTASEES that were a gradient lens that was also changeable.

Then there was the Chromax lenses. I have watched Carlitio's way 50 times and I am certain that they are the Chromax B20 lens. I have a pair in a 62mm lense in the Large Metal 2 arista frame with curled temples. The way the lens looks on Pacino's skin is deffo the B20 Chromax. There are collectors with dead stock USA made stuf and the sunglasses Pacino wears down to the lens are available but not cheap - go from US300 - 600 if they come with the tags, box and original cleaning cloth. The Chromax G20 is very hard to find and the blue mirrored Chromax A30 is super hard to find. The Chromax lenses were designed for driving and apart from looking great they highlight green, red and orange colours which most traffic lights and road signs are in. They are a beautiful lens and one of my favs that BL made!!!!

Im sorry but I refuse to own or wear Italian made Ray Bans - they are cheaply made frames and the lenses are s**t!! Im a snob when it comes to sunglasses and BL made the best lenses for not only Ray Ban but also Halston, Linda Farrow, Tom Ford etc!!

Cheers,

Stacy

I actually think they are Cartier Sunglasses, vintage 70's. they have many on ebay for like 700-800$ they are more rectangular and not Aviator as the RayBan's are.

Thanks for the post. Take a look at the Ray-Ban Outdoorsman II Rainbow Sunglasses RB3407, the Ray-Ban Outdoorsman II Sunglasses RB3029 and the Ray-Ban Outdoorsman Sunglasses RB3030. They all share that great look of the Olympic 1992 model that is no longer available.

They have some similarities with those glasses but they differ to much. I'm going to put my bucks on the W1078 or W1079 if I can find any. =)

I understand that. Thank you. I've found a pair that looks exactly like the W1079 on ebay but it doesn't say "W1079" inside the right/left temple. Is that an indication of it being unauthentic? Cause if it is, I don't want it :P

Well, try to request a photo of the inside of the temple arms. The model numbers and color codes will indicate authenticity. Make sure the seller offers a hassle free return policy just in case.

You are doing a great job with your homework!
