I was just wondering if the Sunglasses are the same Ray-Ban RB3301's he apparently wears. They look slightly different in the show compared to pictures of them.

Here are some RB3301s:

The difference I notice is that the RB3301s don't have as sharper look, they seem more rounded. The ones he wears seem to have sharper corners.

Hi richters,

Thanks for your post.

Ray Ban 3301 indeed looks slightly different from the Ray Ban sunglasses Hank Moody is wearing.

Check out
Ray Ban 3256 - http://www.opticsplanet.com/ray-ban-cas ... asses.html
Ray Ban 3272 - http://www.opticsplanet.com/ray-ban-cas ... asses.html

These styles look more similar.

The frame shape around the lens does indeed look similar, but the head-piece part of the frame looks different in both of those Ray-Bans, they seem to be slightly fatter whereas the one Hank has on are skinnier.

Does anyone know what exactly he's wearing. I'm not even sure if they're Ray-Bans, just did a google search and saw a few links that said he wears RB3301s. I can't see a "Ray-Ban" on the lens, unless it's removed by the studio.

It looks like he has different lens color. It looks like it is dark grey or black. The picture of the sunglasses shows the green lenses. The style, however, looks exactly the same. Take a look http://www.opticsplanet.com/ray-ban-cas ... asses.html .

Nah, they definitely are different. Check out where the arm on the glasses is on the main part of the frame

If anyone knows what they are exactly, please let me know. I'm convinced they're not RB-3301s.

I'd love to know too, I really want a pair. Based on the sharper angles of the frame, thickness of the nose arch, and placement/size of the arms, It certainly isn't the RayBan 3301 or any other RayBan.

Sadly, it is possible this is just a prop they found that is no longer available, something the wardrobe dept/prophouse already had, etc.

Alternatively, since this tends to be a trendy show, it could be a designer one-off or locally produced item. I wouldn't rule our cheap Chinese no-named knock offs either. I'd love to find a name brand pair though.

Great image of the glasses here (I can almost see something {writing?} on the arm through the right lens):

First of all sorry for my english ;). Have you tried to send an email to the studio? Maybe Showtime's or Californication homepage. Try to 'contact' them and ask for the sunglasses. I dont know how to do it and my english is bad but im very interested in the sunglasses too... Maybe one of you can help us.

Cheers!

Yeah, I sincerely doubt they're Ray Bans...I would venture a guess that they are Armani's, Giorgio not Emporio. I have a pair of Giorigio's that I bought in Venice, and have not been able to track down anywhere else. (my gf threw 'em against the wall when she found out about my Italy gf...ouch)That was in 2001. And they haven't popped up yet. The model # also doesn't match the Armani's that they sell over here. Very frustrating. The thing that attracted me was the lenses are extremely flat, and the darkest lesnes I have ever seen. I bought 'em to cut down on the glare in Venice. They also have the squared off lenses, and the squared off arms (though thicker than DD's)--they don't have the coating (DD's have that bluish layer), but if I had to bet , I would veer towards the Armani end of the spectrum. Very, very close.

Could they be Persol 2297s???

Unfortunately, they are also different. The lens shape is slightly different and the temple part where it meets the frame is also different. The Persol's model is closer to Ray-Ban RB 3301 metioned above rather than to the sunglasses Hank Moody is wearing.

Man I'm still keen up on getting these glasses. I took the suggestion of another poster and I have actually emailed Showtime. I will see if I get a response from them.

Dear Mitch,

Thank you for contacting us, and thanks for your interest in "Californication" on Showtime. I'm sorry, but I have no information regarding production of our Showtime Original Series.

Perhaps you want to try posting your question to the message boards on www.sho.com to see if another fan has the answer for you.

Another great resource for all things TV and film related is www.imdb.com (The Internet Movie Database).

Thanks again for your interest, and best of luck.

Sincerely,
Showtime Customer Service

I found a pair on a cheap knock-off sunglasses rack about a month ago for $3. They're a very similiar shape but the lenses aren't as dark as Hank's, and the rims are silver instead of black. I really want a pair of the proper sunglasses. There's a fair chance they are cheap ones too. They are surely not Ray Ban's.

Found similar

So I found a pair of Hugo Boss shades that are darker than the ray bans and similar in shape to Hank's:

I have them and they are pretty cool, though real expensive.
