Ray Ban sunglasses - can't figure out which style

Postby surfingisfun001 on Wed Dec 17, 2008 9:23 pm

I have a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses and have searched for the style name but haven't found them anywhere. Here are some pics, if anyone knows the style name it would be appreciated. They say Ray-Ban on both sides and on the top left of the left lens. Also on the inside left there is a small number printed 10665. Thanks.

These are Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses. Ray Ban carries about 20 different models of aviator sunglasses. This model looks a lot like Ray Ban 3293. Check out

If you would like to take a look at the rest Ray Ban sunglasses from aviator collection, please take a look at

Thank you for your reply. They do look like that model. A friend gave me these sunglasses before moving out to the midwest. One thing I noticed was that the sides have rubber all the way down them, while in the link they are metal. I wanted to sell these on eBay but is it possible that they are a knock off, or could they just be an older model? Is there an accurate way to tell if they are a knock off or not?

Authentic Ray Ban Sunglasses

Postby Liz on Fri Dec 19, 2008 12:01 pm

This might be just an older model of Ray Ban sunglasses.

Here are some tips on how to check if the Ray Ban sunglasses you have are authentic:

There is a small RB on the left lens and a written Ray-Ban logo on the right lens.

The bridge usually features Ray Ban imprint and the size (example: Ray-Ban 62o14).

You can also find Ray Ban written logo and “made in Italy” (or sometimes “made in China” - depending on the model) imprint on the right temple and the model number (for example: “RB 3025 Aviator L”) imprint on the left temple.

As a rule Ray-Ban sunglasses come in a lather case with a cleaning cloth. Ray Ban also includes into the package manufacturer's “Information Note".

originality of Ray ban?

Postby foton on Sat Feb 28, 2009 3:54 am

Hi sorry for intruding

but i could not help asking.

I bought a pair of RB3211 sunglasses but i am not sure if they are original. At the top right lens there is printed Ray ban logo that is also printed at the sides of the temples.

At the inside of the right temple there is a small: RayBan T CE and at the left temple at the inside there is : RB3211 004/71 LARGE 3N.

The case was leather with a leather cloth with red Ray BAN logo and also included inside there was the manufacturer's “Information Note'.

What i cannot find at all is the small RB at the left lens.It just does not exist.

I am a little bit surprised for that as an older pair of ray ban i had, had encrypted BL at the lens as i remember.

I am afraid that may be the sunglasses are fake. Could you please share your opinion with me.

Thank you very much in advance.

Authentic Ray Ban sunglasses

Postby Liz on Mon Mar 02, 2009 1:21 pm

Hi foton,

Judging by your description of the sunglasses and the package, the Ray Ban sunglasses you have are authentic.
I just pulled one Ray Ban 3211 from stock to double check what markings it has. Everything matches. There is also no RB sign engraved on the left lens, just the Ray-Ban logo on the right. For some reason Ray Ban decided not to mark the left lenses on this model  So, don't worry, you have the authentic product. 8)

Hi Liz,

I got a rayban RB 3267 made in China. I'm not sure whether this model is made in Italy or China. Do you have any comments?

Hi Teddy,

As I mentioned above, sometimes you can see "made in China" imprint on the Ray-Ban frames.

You can also find Ray Ban written logo and “made in Italy” (or sometimes “made in China” - depending on the model) imprint on the right temple and the model number (for example: “RB 3025 Aviator L”) imprint on the left temple.

Luxottica Group, the manufacturer of Ray-Ban sunglasses, is an Italian company. They have factories both in Italy and in China. They outsourse the production of some of the models to China. Since the factories are owned by the same company, there is no difference in quality.

Ray Ban RB 3267 style that you bought is made in China (I took a few frames from the shelf to double check). It does not matter whom you by it from, if these are authentic RB3267, it will say China on the frame temple.

Hi. I hope this site still has a moderator. I just picked up a pair of glasses from a yard sale. They are in an AO American Optical Shooting Glass leather case. Inside is a pair of wire glasses with Bausch & Lomb under the bridge. I believe they are vintage but I don't see RB or the logo anywhere. The lenses are yellowish. Did B&L make other types of shooting glasses other than RayBans? Did AO and B&L ever work together?

There was a period of time when American Optical and Bausch & Lomb worked together. B&L used to own Ray-Ban brand in the past. But the production of the RayBan and AO glasses has never overlapped. So there shouldn't be RB logo on the American Optical frames. You might got the vintage American Optical. The lens that you got are probably either Cosmetan or High Contrast Amber. They are both amber, but the first one is made from glass, the second one - from polycarbonate.

Hello Shubham Sharma! It looks like you bought vintage Ray Ban sunglasses made by Bausch & Lomb. Bausch & Lomb used to edge the lenses with BL logo. About 10 years ago Ray Ban brand was sold to an Italian eyewear company - Luxottica Group. They have changed the B&L markings to their owns.

hello, i wonder if anyone here can help me. i just picked up a pair of cute vintage glasses at a flea market. the case has a ray ban logo which says around the outside 'basuch & lomb impact resistant lenses'. the glasses fit perfectly in the case. they have dark yellow lenses and a tan-coloured piece of plastic across the bridge. there is no logo or brand anywhere on the glasses themselves. on the plastic cap on the end of the right arm it just says 'china'. does this mean someone has just put a pair of low-quality glasses into a ray ban case? it doesn't matter a whole lot to me as i think the glasses are pretty cool regardless, but i would like to know whether the lenses are good quality before i venture into the sun wearing them! i would be grateful for any input. let's see if i can get some pics up here, too. Nice glasses!

Well my opinion would be is that they are fake. Most of the time they will also have Ray-Ban or RB(followed by the model number) on one of the arms also if it did not happen to scratch off. It is hard to say if they would be authentic sunglasses because the lenses themselves to not have the Ray-Ban logo on them, and or the BL logo that Bausch & Lomb used to etch on the sunglasses as well.

These look very similar to the Ray-Ban Outdoorsman II Sunglasses RB3029. The case does look authentic, but I am sorry to say that the actual sunglasses are not.

Rest assured that all of the ones on our website are authentic, we hope you place an order with us soon.

Happy shopping!

Hi, i just bought on e bay a vintage ray ban bausch & lomb sidestreet sun glasses.
I am pretty sure they are authentic but i have my doubts because they are made in china.
they have the Ray Ban painted mark on the right lens and the etched BL mark on the left lens.
On the right leg says ray ban CE made in china and on the left leg says RB3055 W3071.
They seam real because i can see they are made of fine quality but i wanted to know if someone can help me identify if this particular model was made in china.

Thank you very much

maryjaneboer good job on selecting these sunglasses first off!

Ray-Ban is a great brand to go with, you cannot go wrong. I reviewed some of the sunglasses here and they say the same thing on the frame, except for the BL logo since Bausch & Lomb was bought out by Ray-Ban some years back and no longer display the logo on the newer sunglasses. These were infact made in China which leads me to believe that so were your sunglasses. Ray-Ban has locations all over the world and so it can be possible that they were made in China. This is not a bad thing since they all go through the same rigorous inspection as other locations.

We hope you enjoy your new frame and we hope to sell you your next.

First of all, great posts and thank you for all your orientation.

I finally bought my very first Ray-Ban, the Polarized RB 3379 004/58, bought them on ebay for $130.
it does have the rb model on the left and the made in china on the right.
question:
1-are these an Aviator model? when I search for Ray-Ban Aviator models on google they kind of look different.
2-i know you've said that they have factories in Italy AND China but on the official Ray-Ban website http://www.ray-ban.com/usa/products/rb3379
the marking on the right side says "made in Italy"...should I be worried?
