ray ban wayfarer L or K markings

Postby wishtrishwishh on Tue Jun 29, 2010 12:14 am

Hello, I have done some research as I would like to buy sunglasses online but I have some questions regarding sizes and lens sizes. Today I tried on the 2140 model with a series of numbers on the left temple that had 50 in it so I am assuming it was 50mm? On the right temple I noticed it had "L" on it, and I remember reading on here that L stands for large. Does the "L" get determined by the lens size or the whole sunglasses overall? What I mean is that, 50mm is not the largest lens they offer, yet there was an L on the side of the glasses. So does that mean each lens size comes in a K or L? I am sort of confused.

Thanks for contacting us. K is used by Ray-Ban to signify that the model is part of their limited edition collection, in most cases these styles are very expensive and also have gold in the frame. K may stand for karat. The L stands for Large, you were correct. It is present on all models Ray-Ban considers to be a larger fit. In this case it's not comparing the RB2140 50mm to the RB2140 54mm. It's comparing it to a smaller style of Ray-Ban frame.

I hope this helped.

Hey Polip,

I am curious to know which Wayfarer model that you have that carry the B marking. I will find out for you what it means.

Hi Larumd

Its the original wayfarer model: 2140 color code: 902 size: 50mm
and i bought it in august in a legal optic store in hungary
so 100% that is an original ray-ban
but i've never seen that B mark on Ray-Ban before.
It's might be a new series.

Hello Again,

The B on the left lens is apart of the engraved RB logo which promotes the authenticity of the Ray-Ban Sunglasses.

The B on the right temple arm is printed in Italy has has no significance. It is a code used by the manufacturer. With that being said it sounds like you most certainly have the real deal.

Hi!

My Wayfarer 2140 has no L or K or B markings. Is it genuine without that?

On the left side is: RB2140 901/58 50[]22 3P
On the right side is: Ray-Ban MADE IN ITALY CE POLARIZED

After reading this thread I'm confused about that.

It has not the model name WAYFARER on the right side and between italy and CE is nothing.

Hello,

Thank you for the post!

On the left side is: RB2140 901/58 50[]22 3P
On the right side is: Ray-Ban MADE IN ITALY CE POLARIZED

These are the real deal! Not all models will have the RB, L or K. But certainly look for that information inside of the temple arms. Which it sounds like yours has the above information.

Enjoy your authentic Ray-Bans!

Hi There,

I just wanted to ask whether you knew anything about the new method of proving genuine Wayfarer's by holding them up to sun light in order to see the metal rod in the arm?

I've tried this with my black ones but cannot see through them, however I know they came from a reputable high street optician. So I'm wondering whether [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/ray-ban-brand.html]Ray ban[/link] ever change the acetate colour at some stage as I'm now wondering whether I have got fakes from a retailer?

Thanks
Jon

Jon,

Hello! I have never heard of this method of indicating fakes from authentic frames. The metal rod is a common feature of most frames. I would suggest you talk to the optical store you bought them from. Call Ray-Ban to see if they are a authorized dealer as well.

Good Look and thanks for the post.

Hello all,

I'm considering buying a pair of glasses with this code: RB2140 901/58 F4 (square)18 3P

How can I tell what size the lenses are? Thank you!

Greetings Madsox,

Thank you for the post. The Ray-Ban Original Wayfarer Sunglasses RB2140 901/58 F4 (square)18 3P should actually read 54 (square) 18. The 5418 means that the lenses are 54mm across at their widest point with an 18mm bridge. This is the biggest size the RB2140 comes in. We have them in stock and ready to ship if you want to save money.

I hope that helps.

Hellow larumd,
I want to buy wayfarer 2140 901 50/22 and on the right temple I noticed that it had the "K".And considering that the "K" symbol may stand for karat I think that the model is fake, because the price is 90$.Is it possible that?

Regards.

Hello,

The Ray-Ban Original Wayfarer Sunglasses, Black Frame with Crystal Green in 50mm Lenses (901-5022) does not contain any amount of gold or precious stones. There were some models that used to have this feature for some limited edition models. Ray-Ban will do that occasionally and very rarely.

K usually means limited edition
L usually stands for a Large frame
T sometimes means tech collection
A and B I am still waiting to hear back from Ray-Ban themselves.

Hello Readers,

I finally got an official answer from Ray-Ban. They say: "that they’re demarcations from our manufacturer, they don’t contain any size/color/material information that would be of any use for the end user."

I hope this helps.
