Rayban wayfarer 5024 authenticity

Postby khj on Mon Apr 01, 2013 11:36 am

I recently purchased a pair of B&L Wayfarer 5024 sunglasses at a fleamarket. They are pretty nice and they where cheap, but i'm a little curious as to whether they are real or fakes. First, they are pretty heavy and have lenses made of glass with B&L etched into them. Also, they have nice metal hinges with 7 "arms" that look authentic, and metal bars running through the temples. They have a nice "Wayfarer angle" to them when viewed from the side, and they fit closely to the face. Also they fold quite "flat". They have B&L 5024 etched over the right lense, WAYFARER on the left temple, and B&L RAY-BAN U.S.A. on the right temple. Also it sayse CE at the tip of the right temple. Now, they do feel like pretty good quality, but a couple things feels a bit "off". First of all, the right temple is loose when folded all the way out. The temple folds out nice and tight most of the way, but loose and flappy for the last couple of mm. It's almost like it's not supposed to fold the last 2 mm or so. Could this be simply because of wearing? Also, the etchings on the inside of the temples look a little cheap. Not REALLY cheap, but still i would imagine them to be a bit deeper if you know what i mean. What makes me think they might be real though, would be the metal hinges and the fact that the lenses are actually made of glass. Do they make fake's with glass lenses? I dont have a good camera but could take some with my iphone. Well, anyways, thanks for your time.
