Ray Ban RB8305 reflection in eyes

Postby GeoBob on Sat Sep 28, 2013 6:36 pm

My ray ban RB8305 polarize lenses have a reflection towards my eyes from the inside of the lens. Why?

Thanks for the post. The reflection you are seeing can be the presence or lack of AR non-glare coating. The job of AR coating is to reduce reflections and improve visual accuity but this can sometimes give off muted blue, green or even purple reflections on the surface of your lenses. I something will notice the reflection of my eyes or the skin around them. In most cases you will get used to them and not notice them anymore. If you are amoung the few people that doesn't care for AR coating there are a few models that do not have it.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. Here's a bit more info. The RB8305 are new. I don't think the reflection is my eyes, because if I block all light from entering from the side and top of the lenses there is no problem. However, if the sunlight enters from the side at the right angle, it's almost blinding. I have a pair Revo and a pair of cheap (the latter purchased at a gas station on a trip because RB8305 issue was too distracting), both with polarized lenses and neither have this problem. The RB8305 seems to have a coating on the inside of the lenses which is not present on the Revo, or the cheap. After a bit of research I have read quite a few other complaints of this problem. And not all with only the RB8305. I contaced and was told they knew of no problems with the RB8305 and, I quote "..maybe you are one of the people that cannot wear polarized lenses." I checked with the company where I bpough the RB8305 (Sunglass Hut) and they admitted to recieving many similar complaints with the RB8305, and other RB models, and that Ray Ban is aware of those issues, but no recall is currently being considered.

So I guess my questions are: Is the apparent coating on the back of the RB8305 necessary? Has there been any other complaints of the problem? Or has any one found a solution?

That is the AR coating that I originally referred to. Yes, most would say it's very effective against surface reflections on the backside of the lenses and it's considered an upgrade. Others don't like it and just cannot get used to it. As I said: "The job of AR coating is to reduce reflections and improve visual accuity but this can sometimes give off muted blue, green or even purple reflections on the surface of your lenses. I something will notice the reflection of my eyes or the skin around them. In most cases you will get used to them and not notice them anymore. If you are amoung the few people that doesn't care for AR coating there are a few models that do not have it." Sadly, it's not enough for them to recall but you might just have to go out and try those models that don't come with AR.

Sorry about that.

Yes, contact Ray-Ban or the retailer you bought them from and find a model that doesn't have AR coating if that's what's causing the issue. If it's the lack of AR find a model with it.

This should take care of the problem.
