It is not easy to give a piece of advice on sunglasses, but we try anyway ;-)

Hi

Nearly impossible to ID sunglasses from pics, but maybe someone will have some ideas. Best of luck in your search. You can see all our sunglasses on our website at http://www.opticsplanet.net/sunglasses.html

johnny's glasses

Postby don on Mon Jun 11, 2007 5:34 pm

Hey, those are exactly the same glasses he wore in Once Upon a Time in Mexico; see the 3rd pair here: http://www.opticsplanet.com/msgboard/about4694.html

I bet they are some kind of Ray Ban aviator style, since Ray Ban probably sponsored Once upon a Time in Mexico (just guessing since all the glasses seen in that movie are ray bans).

Those appear to be the Rayban 3136 Caravan.' Just like Depp usually does, it seems like he put in custom lenses. I have a pair of them, in gold frames with green lenses, and they appear to be identical. I like the looks of those, so maybe I'll get another pair in silver and put in some blue lenses.

If those aren't them, they sure look close. And the angle of Depps' head makes the bridge look different, but they look like that in person. Though I usually like to stick with Oliver Peoples, I have a couple pairs of Raybans, and for $84.15...why not?

These might be American Optical frames. But I think AO frames are closer to classic aviator sunglasses in shape. The ones Johnny is wearing are little bit re-shaped: you do not see the usual "tear-drop" shape. The lens is flatter on the bottom.

I still tend to believe these are Ray Ban Caravan sunglasses with custom made blue lenses. We also sell them. You can place an order at http://www.opticsplanet.net/ray-ban-rb3 ... es-rx.html and select blue lens upgrade from the available lens options.

Would you say that it's matte crome or silver?

I would say it's matte chrome. Silver is kind of shiny.

Here is the link where you can order American Original Pilot in 52 mm size:

http://www.opticsplanet.net/ao-original ... matte.html

If you would like to buy American Optical frames without lenses, please check out this page:

http://www.opticsplanet.net/ao-flight-g ... -only.html

If you would like to order American Optical glasses with custom-colored lenses, please give us a call at 1-800-504-5897. We will take your order over the phone.

Hi :)

The sunglasses on the picture look a lot like custom made American Optical Original Pilot sunglasses with silver frames. We can custom make a pair of sunglasses for you with the same color lenses. You can give me a call at 800-504-5897 ext 239 if you would be interested and I will provide you with a price quote and further instructions on how to proceed with placing your order.

Randolph Engineering has this frame with blue lenses on their site - www.randolphusastore.com/aviator.html

It LOOKS like the same thing. I know their frames are used in a bunch of movies, so it's possible these are the ones.

The sunglasses from the web site you have mentioned look identical to American Optical Original Pilot. Check it out at

http://www.opticsplanet.net/ao-original-pilot

Only it is twice as expensive as American Optical ...
