I have been looking at this unit (Rigel 3300 ) and noticed that on many sites it is listed anywhere between 11deg. to 40deg. field of view. This is vital in my use of the unit and would like to know its true field of view.

Thank you for your interest in www.OpticsPlanet.com. There are two different ways to calculate field of view (FOV). You can use actual FOV or apparent FOV.
Actual FOV is the degree of viewing area that is actually seen through the scope. This number is affected by magnification and objective size. The higher the magnification, the smaller your FOV. On a 1x night vision unit, that number is likely to be in upwards of 35 to 40 degrees. On a 6x or 8x binocular or night vision unit, the number is usually between 8 and 14 deg. This is what you actually are looking at compared to a 360 deg. flat view.
Apparent FOV is the amount of your eyesight is being used by what you are looking through, compared to your vision. This is compared to your 180 deg peripheral vision. You will usually see numbers like 70-80 deg FOV.
