By the way, my criticism of the C65 may have been harsh. I did own a Geo Metro for many years, and it worked, up to a point, so maybe I should have compared it to a Metro. _________________ ----------------------

I don't think the C65 is a good spotting scope. It really shouldn't be positioned as a spotting scope. Celestron had nothing to do with the design, they just paid a Chinese company to print the Celestron name on an existing Chinese product (as Konus did with the same product, the Konuspot 90). It *is* Celestron's fault for marketing the scope as a spotter. I don't care how it compares to other $60 spotting scopes, I'm comparing it to $60 astronomical telescopes.
I personally don't care what anyone thinks about it or my opinion of it, because I know it's a perfectly servicable little astronomy scope that is no worse than a lot of scopes out there in it's price range and comes in a more desirable package. It is way better for looking at the moon and planets than a real spotting scope in that price range and binoculars are not even in the running.
I don't care whether I can read a street sign a block away, there are no street signs on the moon the last time I looked--or maybe I missed them because I just couldn't read them
IMHO, the tripod is actually the worst part. It looks nice, but it has no mass and can't begin to keep the scope from shaking, especially with jittery slo-mo controls. With a regular tripod, I have easily resolved the disk of Venus, for example.
The Yugo was a real piece of work. An outdated, discontinued Fiat (a bad enough Italian design to start with) assembled by zero-motivation Eastern European workers... |

Hi Bob
As far as I am concerned, if you like it, it can't be all bad. _________________ ----------------------
