Hello,
I am trying to read (1) letters from the 1700's and (2) tiny type which I cannot read with my run of the mill magnifying glass.
What do you recommend, please.

What magnification are you using now? You might want to try a 5x model, such as the Bausch & Lomb 5x Aspheric Magnifier.
