| I'm looking at purchasing the Zeiss Diascope 85 T* FL Spotting Scopes and wish to use it with a Nikon D200 camera or maybe the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1. However my dilemma is this. I have heard that when attaching the variable (zoom) eyepiece there is some considerable vignetting. Can you tell me the best possible combination for photographic quality with the Zeiss scope with the least problems for wildlife photos[/b] |

Hi,
Vignetting is a fact of life for digiscoping, and it's tough to find an eyepiece/camera combination that will not have some. In practical terms, it just means more cropping with your software photo program, but it's always better to have more subject ot work with, of course, before you crop.
The best eyepieces for digiscoping tend to be fixed power, wide-angle eyepieces. We don't carry them, but Zeiss does make a 30x and 40x. Wide-angle eyepieces such as these have a larger lens element than a zoom and produce less vignetting, and with some cameras, none at all. No way to predict, though, until you put your particular camera up to an eyepiece and have a look. Wide-angle eyepieces also tend to have longer eye relief, which makes positioning of the camera lens more forgiving, allowing you to use the eyepiece with a wider range of cameras. Nevertheless, many people use the zoom to get the magnification. Just crop as needed. _________________ Thanks for posting with us
