Final thought and request for assistance and then I will order something you have in stock. Based on what you provided below then it sounds like I am overbuying based upon the person who would be using it. Perhaps I need to step down to a much more basic unit for ease of use and since the person is unlikely to use anything much more than the basic features.
What do you recommend?

Yes, I got that impression, too. Try something very simple such as the Garmin Etrex. This is as simple and basic as a GPS gets, but it is just as accurate as the most expensive model. It won't display maps, but it will show you the directions to any location you save as a waypoint and, of course, it will always give you your location in lat/long and so on.
