Eyepieces for Meade ETX125PE

Postby binskyhere on Thu Nov 27, 2008 8:46 pm

I already have the Meade Series 4000 eyepiece and filter set for my telescope. I was wondering what other eyepieces you recommend for my telescope? I see a lot on your site and am looking for ones to add to my set?
Thank you,

Eddie

Hi

If you want to upgrade, you can go to a 1) sharper eyepiece and/or 2) a wide angle eyepiece. To get both in one eyepiece is expensive, but a Televue Nagler is always a great choice. I also like Televue Panoptics, Meade Ultra-wides, Pentax XWs and so on. If you want the most popular planet eyepiece on the market, I would go with the Televue Radians.

Another question :)

At the risk of asking a silly question, on your site there are 16 different Nagler eyepieces. Is there one I should start with for the best viewing? I am using the eyepiece that came with the scope until the Meade kit comes in so I'm looking for a good one to start with. I also see that some are a 2" barrel size--do you sell a fitting to go from 1 1/2" male to 2" female to accomodate the 2" size?

Thanks,
Eddie

Hi

Not a silly question. First thing you decide is the magnification you want and that is a matter of the focal length. You don't need 2" until you get to the very long focal lengths (low magnifications). Simply not possible to combine very long focal lengths and wide field optics in a 1.25" barrel. That's the reason for 2" eyepieces. See my eyepiece article Ten Top Telescope Eyepiece Questions

You cannot directly convert your ETX to 2" format, but you could by adding a back cell adapterthen adding a SCT 2" diagonal such as the Celestron 93527
