Meade LXD75 or ETX125
I was considering a Meade LXD75 SN-8AT for my son for Christmas but it appears this model has a longer delivery time and I've waited too long to receive it in time. As an alternative, would either the LXD75 SN-6AT or ETX-125PE, or a comparable Celestron, offer quality viewing for DSO -- one better than the other? Is the ETX more portable and easier to setup?

Any fork mount, like the ETX or single arm mount like a Celestron SE is a much more prtable and user friendly mount than an equatorial. Telescope size, in terms of the lens or mirror, though, is the main factor in performance when it comes to deep-sky objects. An 8" scope is going to a better choice for DSOs than a 5" If you want something right away, best we can offer right now is the ETX-125
