Is there a scope, that is portable, that is able to resolve a liscense plate at distance of 1 mile? Understanding that atmosphere condictions will allow it.

No, there are no optical instruments that will resolve a license plate at 1 mile. The atmosphere does not allow for this.

What would be a reasonable distance to be able to read a liscense plate, with cost as no option.

They may not be supposed to do it but they will.

I have a new Celestron Omni XLT 102mm that will I think.

I wash setting my finder scope to match the telescope and put it on a tractor about 3/4 mile away. Not only did it pick up small detail on the tractor,I looked at the prongs on the plug of an extension cord.

This leads me to believe it could read a liscense plate at a mile away.

I may be wrong though...
