Beginner Scope

Postby SherriT on Mon Nov 23, 2009 4:05 pm

Hello - I have been shopping for a good beginner scope, and keep coming back to the Meade ETX series, but I am confused by the letters after the number. For example a Meade ETX 90EC vs a Meade ETX 90AT? Can anyone explain to me the difference in models? Also, if you have any recommendations or "gotchas", I would appreciate it!

Hi

Unless you are looking at used, you will no longer find an EC version. EC means electronic hand control, but no computer. The scope has drive motors, but no computer. An AT is Autostar, Meade's computer. It has motors and a computer. The latest version is the PE- it is also an Autostar with a computer, with the addition of an LNT modeule which makes aligning the computer a bit quicker.
